I need some input here

I have been in the studio with my band and we are almost done with our album. All we have to do is tie up some loose ends like solos and harmonies.

Shouldn't be any big deal, but the guitar player (Bart Bigsby) is really acting an ass. He keeps playing totally inappropriate solos and it looks like he's trying to break his guitar. I am at a loss.:banghead:

Attached is a recording session we had last night. You can hear at the link in my sig.

Looking for some input here. (preferably of the like I might agree with)

Thanks a bunch,
Willy

khfreek 06-03-2009 08:38 PM

rofl, is this a joke? That little solo argument sounded scripted. But seriously, his solos, at least in the first track, sounded good to me <_< I dunno how he looks like he's going to break the guitar, sounds badass to me.

EDIT: In regards to the producer's comments about the second attempt, it really isn't apparent to my ears that he's doing anything wrong. Though this is your attempt to record an album, and you don't want to ruin it... you might want to sit down with your guitarist and tell him that it's in the interest of the group's welfare to hold back on the soloing.

I thought he would have figured it out by now. He's no spring chicken. Bart's been around the block, but it seems he has lost his senses, and I don't know how much more I can take.

khfreek 06-03-2009 10:23 PM

Are you considering replacing him at this point?

I think I might have to. It sucks because we are almost done with the recording. I would rather get it done, then can him.

khfreek 06-03-2009 11:14 PM

It also sucks because I don't think he's doing anything wrong <_<

Hell, if he managed to break his guitar while recording, it would be an epic band story

Thrustin 06-03-2009 11:47 PM

Just like another guitar god to take up for one of your brethren. Play to the song is as important as the type of gear you use and what stage outfits you wear.

I am lucky that I don't have some of the normal issues with Bart. He plays a Tele. That is genre correct at least. And he dresses up for shows. He wears his guitar within the specified zone(the upper horn of the guitar body must be within 3 inches of the nips, up or down).

I would hate to see him go.

What does >_> mean?

Antonio 06-03-2009 11:51 PM

hey can you put that site back up? it was taken out of your sig by a mod

Thrustin 06-03-2009 11:57 PM

I don't think the mods want my myspace link to be known anymore. I am Willy of "Willy and the Outlaw Ramblers" and it's true that willysingssongs .

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 06:24 AM

its because you're trying to bypass their system, once you have 15 posts you're allowed to post actual links. but the mods have made it very clear they want people to become more knowable before you do anything like self-promotion. since you can't post links yet show us your lyrics this is the songwriting forum.

also antonio, i like your new album

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 06:32 AM

yeah, i knew a color like that would stand out. what songs of it do you enjoy?

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 06:38 AM

Schizophrenia, Scorched Earth, Amazin' Grace, and Funkology

coryallen2 06-04-2009 06:47 AM

Why don't you just let the guitar player go?I did'nt listen to the music because there is no link. But I take it this is a rock or metal band seeing the have solos. If the solos are good let him do it. You can't be a control freak. It is'nt your wife. If he thinks it sounds good then it sounds good. Obviously Khfreek likes it so it's good. I mean if he wasnt good on the guitar and did'nt want to do anything then can him but don't can him now.

If he has been aroudn the block a few tiems then he knows what he is doing. And he is evadently doing it well. I would rather have a guitarist that i knwo and am comfortable with than some joe shmoe that i hardly know. If it sounds good keep it.

The moral of the sotry is. Just leave him. He knows what eh is doing. Bands are group efforts not just 1 person. There is no I in team or band for that much. If the album turns out good you will be happy.

just posting his band's link, for people wanting an idea of what he's talking about

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 07:11 AM

THAT"S WHAT A SOLO IS!!! that sounds like a country solo. i think you're being a whiny B****! ok, if that's you talkin to the guitarist, you're annoying and whiny. i think your band is too dysfunctional, and you're the main problem. ok just to prove your wrong show us 2 versions of one of your songs, the version that goes your way and then the version that goes his way, and even if you called it liked version A and B, we'd probably still choose the guitarist's.
oh yeah, i went there

khfreek 06-04-2009 08:24 AM

I believe it's the producer that's the whiny bitch, not Thrustin'. That's why it's not so easy for him to let the guitarist have his way; because the producer has the final say about the album getting released (I think).

coryallen2 06-04-2009 08:25 AM

Well they need to get a new producer... Or why don't they let the guitarist produce? XD

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 09:41 AM

any producers i've ever met had a big say, but they didn't have the final say (maybe its different in country world)

I couldn't do a taste test if I wanted, because I never got a good take. A, B, C and beyond would just be punk rock guitar over outlaw country. All of you would end up checking the "neither" box.

And, that was me talking to Bart. I am the producer/band leader/singer/songwriter/gig-getter/PA owner/etc.

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 12:35 PM

the solos sound nothing like punk, have you heard punk music before?

I've heard punk music before, sure.

What I saw in the studio from this guy was very punk. It was guitard anarchy!

He pushed the strings so hard they almost went off the fretboard!

How is that professional behavior?

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 12:53 PM

it sounded pretty basic for a country music solo, and i think a lot of other people agree.
also i think your a jack*** for posting that audio clip just to deface your friend

His guitar playing would have spoke for itself eventually. Would you get mad at me for putting his name in the credits as the guitar player. Would that be rude too?

Stone Birds 06-04-2009 01:23 PM

he's your guitar player. but seriously it sounds fine, just let him do it. you guys are in a band. a band is multiple musicians working together on making music. so look at his side of the argument. whether you think you're right or not at least talk to him about this instead of insulting him behind his back.

Thanks for your insight. I think you might want to take another listen to the song though.

khfreek 06-04-2009 07:19 PM

I couldn't care less how the guy looks when he's playing, it sounds great.

Did you even listen to the song in question? Are you serious?

khfreek 06-04-2009 10:05 PM

Yes, I listened, and I am serious. His playing has a lot more character than most southern rock/country guitarists I've heard. I guess since it's basically your band AND your album, you get to decide the musical direction the album takes, but I think you'd be losing an asset if you got rid of him. Be more open to experimentation, dude!

Can someone help this guy out?

khfreek 06-04-2009 11:27 PM

You were the one asking for advice, you dunce, not me. If you already had your mind made up, then why come pollute our forum with your self-promotion? Oh, that's right, because you think some of us will actually care about your band.

I might've cared if you weren't canning a fun guitarist.

This has been exhausting.

I wanted you to go listen again because it is a joke. It's a comedy routine.

I played all of the instruments.

That was me talking to me on that clip.

I am Willy and Bart. I am the whole band. It is funny. I didn't think it was heavily cloaked.

Thanks for taking my side in regards to the guitar playing, though. I was really being rude to me.

I put time and effort into what I do. I don't just show up on a forum and write nasty stuff and call people names. I came here to make you laugh.

When I stumbled on the MB, I thought to myself. "I am musicbanter." This seems like the perfect place for me. I hope in can be.

I mean no harm, and I will participate where and when I choose as long as I am allowed.

khfreek 06-05-2009 07:45 AM

I knew it sounded scripted <_<

Nice work.
