Thumbs up Which goes first - Chord progress. or Tune ?

I was wondering which is better, or which is the right way or which do you prefer - Set up the chord progression first then the tune or melody OR Set up the tune first then figure out the chords for the tune ?

thank you in advance.

There is no right or wrong way. Write whichever way gets you the best results.

I'm a chord progression guy myself. I'm all about weird chords to set the tone, so I mess around until I find something I like, then let the rest fall into place.

exactly.

ironically i'm the opposite of you. i like getting a melody in my head first then contemplating different ways to approach it before trying to find ways to apply it to my instrument. i find visualizing how to play what i'm hearing helps me actually do it.

For me my greatest strength is in chords and my weakest part is vocal melodies so naturally the chords tend to come first.
