Default Thorns

If you want roses, gotta put up with thorns,
But I can't find the roses within these thorns
Even thistles have a scent that will sweeten the room
But these thorns are old, and I don't think they will bloom

If you want rainbows, gotta put up with rain
But it is startin' to hail, and I can't take the pain
If you want good, gotta put up with bad
But this is ridiculous, I've taken all that I can

You wanted me to stay with you through triumph and through trial
But where are the good times that make it worthwhile?
Don't you think that I've gone through enough?
When will I get to feel your love?
-----------------------------------------------------
Waiting at the station for the train to come in
But the tracks are rusted over, might as well go home again
You once told me the train of love would set the rails to ringin'
But either I'm deaf or the steel ain't singin'

You always tell me good things come to people who wait,
Well, I've been waiting for ages, how long will it take?
At one time I would gladly wait for you to catch up,
But I'm still waiting for that; I feel that I've been stood up.

Waiting for your love is like Waiting for Godot
I don't think he'd gonna come, I think he left long ago
Haven't I waited long enough?
When do I get to feel your love?
-----------------------------------------------------
You always tell me love must be a two-way street
Well, I'm way past the middle, so where do we meet?
You said if I went far enough, things would be all right,
But I’m nearing the end, and you’re nowheres in sight

I know love must consist of both give and take
Well, I’ve given my all, there’s not much more I can take.
I helped, I gave, I loved you, now I’m spread pretty thin
Question for you, babe, where do you come in?

You say I need to treat love like it’s more than a jaunt
Look, I gave my heart and soul to you, what more do you want?
Don’t you think that I’ve done enough?
When will I get to feel your love?
-----------------------------------------------------
Looking back over it I now realize
I've been playing the fool, it's high time I got wise.
Look at me, girl, and listen for once
I’m sick of this act as your convenient dunce

It’s used as an excuse, but this time it is true
When I say “It isn’t me, babe, it’s always been you.”
I gave what I could, and got squat in return
Now I did the last thing you wanted, and that was to learn

You told me love’s supported by two, not by one
Yeah, hello, I know that well, ‘cause I’ve been that one!
I’m tired, I’m sick, I’ve had enough
I’ll look somewhere else for love
-----------------------------------------------------
Thank you babe for the gift you gave
The freedom to just walk away
You made it so easy to do
To simply turn and say adieu

Sayanara and goodbye
Auf Wiedersehen, I won’t cry
I’ll forget all about you
And find someone who’ll love me too.
