Maggot Brain is godly as far as I'm concerned. Haven't heard One Nation Under a Groove or anything else. I don't know why though, psychedelic funk is like one of the coolest genre combos.

stillunusual 04-10-2011 01:59 PM

how's this for a song title?

Listening to the debut album and realizing... Funkadellic were a damn experimental band when they first started. Ingenious stuff, highly recommended.

I agree, there are so many genres of music of the modern day, that (in part) derived from P-Funk. Funk Rock, Hip Hop, etc. are a few to mention. The band "The Isley Brothers" were directly influenced by Jimi Hendrix on guitar, You can easily notice in their music (Fight The Power or Living In The Life) by the rock guitar and rhythm section fused with funk. And the rock guitar aspect with Funkadelic is just as well dominating musically. I think sometimes a lot of music enthusiast miss the rock guitar aspect that originates with a lot of the late '60s & '70s funk music/genre.

I can't put into words just how good Funkadelic are.

Surell 12-12-2011 06:15 PM

Their live shows are sure trippy too. Btw, the only album i've listened to is Mothership Connection, which is a great, fun, groovy musical piece. Sooo catchy.

I haven't heard that album in years, Parliament's first album to be certified gold and later platinum. there's just so many albums I still need acquire.

Parliament's Greatest Hits (1984) went Gold as well. I do have that one.

Saw George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic live at the Ritz in Manchester a few days ago - it was a great show, he's looking good for his age and they played a lot of old favourites, including an awesome version of "Maggot Brain"....

lecterz12 03-22-2012 12:01 PM

DrFunkenstein 04-14-2012 11:16 AM

I love Funkadelic. Best music ever to jam to on the bongos/guitar :)

Chives 06-07-2012 09:26 AM

Somehow I just discovered Parliament/Funkadelic yesterday and now I'm on a marathon of funky listening. How did I put off listening to them for so long? Maggot Brain was amazing, to say the least.

Forward To Death 06-08-2012 03:39 AM

Hardcore Jollies, just listened to yesterday. One of my favorite album artworks, and the album itself is awesome. Anything George Clinton is dope.

Notes82 06-19-2012 03:01 AM

Such an amazing band!

davebon 07-17-2012 10:53 PM

Cosmic Slop is my favourite, not a bad track, and includes the eerie March to the Witches Castle. Also Nappy Dugout, what a song, what a groove!

Rjinn 09-17-2012 04:38 AM

One of the best experimental funk bands I've come across. The Electric Spanking Of War Babies deserves a mention too.

Rewind 09-21-2012 08:34 AM

They where the pioneers of funk rock music.

(70s P-Funk) One of the more popular innovators of Funk Rock no doubt. Eddie Hazel as a lead (rock) guitarist along with Ernie Isley rocked funk in the 70s.

Rick James along with others are worth mention as well.

Knee Deep is a fine tune by funkadelic. check it out to find out where de la soul pinched that killer hook from for their classic hip hop track

Beyondofficial 02-10-2013 02:19 PM

I just discovered "Maggot Brain" a few months ago. It blew me away. Beautiful and moving piece of music, incredible guitar solo.

I saw George quite a lot at the studio where I went to school and interned. His projects were BY FAR the most ambitious I'd ever seen. He'd have recording sessions marathons of 24 hours straight with different musicians and singers coming in at different times to lay down their tracks. We had a massive old API mixing board with 6 recording busses on it. You would route the inputs to the busses in such a way that no matter how many tracks you had, you would never need more than 6 busses. Very few people used more than 2 or 3. Using 4 was unusual. The only person I ever saw that needed to use all 6 was George Clinton. George loved that board.

Once some guys were in the studio using Funkadelic tracks for hip-hop tunes they were doing when George suddenly walked in. The guys stood there in shock not knowing how George would take it that they were swiping his tracks. George just sat down and helped them lift the tracks they wanted with no talk of payment or copyrights. And even though I detest hip-hop and rap I thought that was very cool of him. That's the way he is.

I never got to know him well as I never worked directly with him but only for his musicians. But occasionally he'd walk in and he'd be coming down the hallway just as I was going the other way. This great legend I'd been listening to ever since I was a little kid with my transistor radio. He'd just nod and smile and say, "Howzit goin' man?" I never saw him with a posse or anything. A great genius. He just has a presence. I never met anyone else like him. He has a commanding presence. He's sort of like a divine being in that you know you're in the presence of someone who is not like anyone you'll ever meet.

And I think he knows he's got that presence but doesn't use it to intimidate or snub you. He's just a regular guy in spite of it.

I still have this old 45:

Who's a Funkadelic (AKA Connections and Disconnections) 1980

The album by the original Parliament members Fuzzy, Grady and Calvin.
I've heard mostly bad things about it, what are your thoughts on it?

It doesn't have that slow drive, dirty and nasty P Funk sound and vibe Funkadelic/Parlament had with the earlier 70s funk.
It has too much of a disco influence sound for my taste, but that's what some folks like.

Who would've ever thought there are people out there that actually enjoy listening to disco.

PANICGAL 07-20-2014 10:01 PM

LOVE George Clinton. Shows are always a riot.

tillimanjaro 07-23-2014 05:00 PM

great band for sure!

Seeing as its Gary Shider's birthday lets talk about Diaperman. Some of my favorite tunes of his are "Nosebleed", "Cosmic Slop" and "Gettin to know you". What are some of yours?

Also, I've heard he's got a couple solo albums. Anyone ever come across these recordings? If so how are they?
