Funkadelic

Do you promise to funk, the whole funk, nothin' but the funk?

Come on people, share the love.
Maggot Brain got me hooked but One Nation Under a Groove officially funked my brains out.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-10-2006 03:19 PM

They`re a f*cking awesome band.

The first time I heard Maggot Brain I was gobsmacked. I don`t think Eddie Hazel gets anywhere near the amount of credit he deserves as a guitarist.

In fact i`m gonna download America Eats It`s Young right now

MoonlitSunshine 11-10-2006 03:21 PM

I downloaded some yesterday, I haven't listened to it yet though, I've always had high hopes for them though!

Friday 04-17-2007 04:23 AM

Funkadelic were a band that gave 100% all the time, every song, every record.

Calmest Chord 04-17-2007 04:24 PM

I love Funkadelic. I havent heard a lot of their stuff admitedly, but I have ordered Maggot Brain and Im expecting it this week.

Dr_Rez 01-18-2008 09:34 PM

Ya there extremely good. George Clinton is a genius.

lucylamppost 01-18-2008 10:31 PM

I adore them.I just started listing to them and want to add them to my library what cd of theres do you recommend I pick up first?

cardboard adolescent 01-19-2008 01:20 AM

Although Maggot Brain is probably their most popular my favorite is One Nation Under a Groove.

Get there 2 album greatest hits, if you want to try them out.

jackhammer 01-19-2008 12:43 PM

To my eternal shame I have no Funkadelic whatsoever. I have some Parliament stuff but these are better are'nt they?

cardboard adolescent 01-19-2008 12:48 PM

I prefer Parliament, really.

Funkadelic are more sort of rock based compared to Parliament's more poppier edge.

jackhammer 01-19-2008 12:54 PM

Yeah that's what I thought. I think Funkadelic for me then!

I've been listening to One Nation Under a Groove lately.

littleknowitall 01-23-2008 06:28 AM

*bows down to the gods of funk*

ProggyMan 01-23-2008 10:01 PM

The Mothership Connection is better than anything Funkadelic has ever released, but overall I prefer Funkadelic. Lemme get some o' that funky p-funk...

quagmire740 01-24-2008 12:05 PM

I'm more into Parliament myself

Agreed. I also enjoy America Eats its Young quite a bit too.

Mommy, what's a Funkadelic?

Molecules 03-04-2008 07:26 PM

YES

'Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow'... on a summer's day, and enough green to last the weekend with your girlfriend *weeps*

Parliament were brilliant too... For 'Flashlight' alone

jackhammer 05-30-2008 02:32 PM

How good is the guitar work on Maggot Brain on One Nation Under A Groove? Awesome stuff.

Piss Me Off 06-04-2008 09:50 AM

Funkadelic! Its been about 3 months and i'm STILL playing the hell out of Maggot Brain, so many highlights. So good that i haven't even bothered with the other albums yet, i'm ammending this now.

KENSOFINE 06-12-2008 08:28 AM

Check out their side projects...

1. Brides of Funkenstein
2. Horny Horns
3. Parlet
4. Bootsy (obviously)
5. And several of the member's solo projects

Dr_Rez 06-12-2008 09:34 AM

I keep looking for them on vinyl but all the record stores near me are sold out.

Molecules 06-12-2008 04:34 PM

ah long summer evenings getting toasted to 'Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow'...
Parliament were very tight but the psychedelic factor is important for me...

Frank Trauma 07-12-2008 06:53 PM

I'm with you there!
Though a compilation, 'Music For Your Mother' is perhaps the greatest album out there. It spans their entire catalog.

Anyone ever hear Ween's 'A Tear For Eddie'? It's a Maggotbrain-esque tribute to Eddie Hazzle. The studio version is alright but the 'Live At Stubb's 7/2000' version is mind blowing!

littleknowitall 07-17-2008 07:09 AM

Kind of an embarassing question, Bootsy Collins Bass effect was obviously producted on a pedal, what what was the name of the specific pedal. I've felt like breaking out a bit of funkadellic recently and it's just no good without that pedal.

blackspots 08-07-2008 02:24 PM

funkadelic are great i just bought "one nation under a groove" on vinyl. as well as parliament's "Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo Syndrome" which is unbelievably good.

Kevorkian Logic 08-08-2008 10:41 AM

I gave this band a couple of good thorough listenings a couple of months ago, and I must say I wasn't disappointed.

kingcrimson 09-09-2008 06:31 PM

Pfunk is very awesome. One thing that most people don't know about them is that their lead man George Clinton actually isn't the "genius" behind the band. It was more Bernie Worrel on keyboards that did all the work. George was just good at getting all the attention. Also Eddie Hazel did a lot of work once he joined the band.

The real faithful should check out Bernie Worrells solo stuff such as Improvisczario or Eddie Hazels Game Dames and Guitar Thangs

(sin)TAX 09-11-2008 02:42 PM

everybody do the Flashlight!!

kingcrimson 09-13-2008 09:56 PM

Wayfarer I completely agree that George did a lot of the work for the bands, I just think he gets too much credit in comparison to the other band members like, Worrell, Hazel, bootsy and the like.

Surell 09-15-2008 10:55 PM

I've never real listened to their records, but I saw em live for a Juneteenth show, and they kick ass. George Clinton's out of his damn mind, but that's the only way I'd have it. I gotta get into their records soon, and hope they come back for a third time. :x

We're talkin bout P Funk, right? If not, I'm quite lost.

Mojo 01-04-2009 02:44 PM

I have been playing the hell out of "Funkadelic", "Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow", "Maggot Brain" and "America Eats It's Young" lately. It's really ****ing great stuff.

Starting to think about listening to the rest is quite daunting as what I'm most impressed with so far is Eddie Hazel's guitar work and the psychedelic edge they have which I have been led to believe is missing from Parliament?

tastebud 01-31-2009 11:52 PM

I was introduced to Funkadelic by my 2D design teacher last semester and fell in loooveeeee.

"Can You Get To That" is my favorite, it always makes me happy.

Big McLargeHuge 02-01-2009 10:59 AM

Funkadelic is definitely my favorite funk act.

Maggot Brain and One Nation under a Groove are phenomenal.

Phate75 02-02-2009 07:18 AM

I love Funkadelic, I got into them through hip hop sampling the hell out of them (anyone else?) Fave album is the first, "Funkadelic" but one track the blows my head everytime is "I'll Stay" off "Standing On The Verge.." It makes me weep LOL

One Nation Under A Groove is probably the best LP that Funkadelic released. I think Funkentelechy vs Placebo Syndrome was a smart business move as it had such commercial appeal, and recruited a whole new army of fans.
