I only have Psychedelic Shack on vinyl and my record player doesn't work, so I'll be DL'ing some of the albums mentioned here thank yalls.

Love them, even though I haven't listened to any of their songs as of late, I still think their songs are fun and catchy.
"Ain't Too Proud To Beg" being my favorite. |
I'm surprised that I haven't commented here til now,I'm more than likely the biggest Temps fan here, listen to thier early work if you can...Dream Come True-Mind Over Matter[as the Pirates]-Slow Down Heart..I'll return with more later.

Ok, I'm back..five lead singers no other group came close then or now,out dancing and out dressing any challengers even their album fillers are great..Born To Love You[with Jimmy Ruffin]-Just Another Lonely Night[Paul at his best]-Say You-Little Miss Sweetness-Cindy,just name a few,but it's the hits that made them legends and there are many..The Girl's Alright With Me[the best first tenor lead in soul music history]-Girl Why You Wanna Make Me Blue[killer snare drums]My Girl[the David Ruffin era begins]and they became the [Classic]Temptations-It's Growing-Since I Lost My Baby-My Baby-the jumpin[Get Ready]-Ain't Too Proud To Beg-Beauty's Only Skin Deep[a killer melody]of course David left after more hits, and in came Dennis Edwards and their[Psychedelic]period began..Cloud Nine-Run Away Child-Psychedelic Shack-Ball Of Confusion..they slide into the eighties with style-Power-Struck By Lightning Twice-The Shadow Of Your Love-Treat Her Like A Lady-Standing On The Top[with Rick James]Evil Woman..and still going strong today with a Broadway play and a new wave of fans..as the DJ'S used to say-the tall-tan-talented-temptin Temptations!!

Best vocal band ever.
David Ruffin - 'My Girl' Dennis Edwards - 'Papa was a rolling stone' Eddie Kendricks - 'Just my Imagination' Melvin Fanklin - On everything he ever sang on! Weakest member was always Otis Williams, poor singer but he seems to take credit for them, the movie (TV series) The Temptation story was biased in his favor. |
The Temptations
Although the movie was lightly based on his book,Otis didn't have final say over how they were portrayed-blame Susanne DuPass for that,oh and Otis wasn't a poor singer he had the lease range of all the classic Temps, but could still deliver a good lead as he does on-Don't Send Me Away..I Ain't Got Nothing..Read Between The Lines.

It was a shame Eddie Kendricks ruined his beautiful voice by chain smoking. Ron Tyson currently sings Eddie's parts. I saw them recently but only Ollie is an original, the rest have all sadly died.
|
The smooth Eddie was the greatest first tenor in soul music history....of the replacement singers I would say that [Glenn Leonard- 1975-83] was the best, although- Damon Harris sounded more like Eddie.
