The Temptations

For them not to have their own thread is just blasphemy I tell you.

Blasphemy.

Which Temp is your favorite? David? Eddie? Paul? Dennis? Richard? Melvin?

They all had their own unique voices. And of course Otis, while never a leading man, was the glue that held the group together.

But lets not forget about Smokey Robinson and Norman Whitfield, who penned many of their classic hits. And of course the fabulous Funk Brothers (which included bass guitar virtuoso James Jamerson) who served as the backbone of the Temptations sound.

ball of confusion - one of the coolest things they ever did, imo

I like them but i don't have anything. What's a good starting point or should i just go for a best of?

A best of's a good start. They're easy enough to find and dirt-cheap too.

Sky's the Limit would probably be my favourite album of theirs though.

Hmmm favourite temp thats a tough one...

David was the voice... Ain't too proud to beg is cold, although he became a massive cokehead and ruined a whole motown tour...

Otis and melvin have to remain my favourites because they were always genuine people.

Eddie ruined his life in the 70s, what was he thinking with keep on truckin lol

plus dennis was the voice on papa was a rolling stone, and his daddy really did die on that day in september.....

Rip norman whitfield as well who wrote that song and many others....

krissi 05-27-2009 03:44 AM

Imo "i cant get next to you" and "the way you do the things you do" are 2 of their best as well...

I think Eddie probably had the best voice of the bunch, tis a shame that he ruined it with all that chain smoking, which eventually cost him his life

Interesting story. When Norman presented that song to the temps, Dennis was really pissed off because he felt that Sep 3 was put into the song intentionally, while Norman claimed it was just a coincidence.

But it was really just a sneaky strategy to get an emotional performance out of him, which worked quite well.

So is your name Michel, Strewak or Daniel, or are you just spamming your business?

Great group, great singers who were lucky to get great producers. There's a lot of stuff from their seventies albums that is great material but wil never get on Best Ofs and the like.

So many of their hits are classics as well - I Can't Get Next to You, Just My Imagination, My Girl, Get Ready, Psychedelic Shack, Papa Was a Rolling Stone, and on and on.
