Thanks man, heard the Marvin Gaye one and I like it a lot. I'll check the others out too.
Thanks again. |

I've been looking for some more funk to get into lately. I'm looking for stuff that's more on the side of funk than soul or R&B. Bands that have a similar style to the Red Hot Chili Peppers (specifically their Uplift Mofo/Freaky Styley phase), Parliament, or Bootsy's Rubber band. I've checked out Funkadelic and I like it, but it's a little too much on the rock side for what I'm looking for. Same with bands like the Ohio Players. A bit much on the soul/R&B side for my taste, but I can dig songs like Fire and Funky Worm for example. Stuff with some real groovy bass lines. That's what I'm looking for. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I don't usually like soul, but I've been enjoying Bill Withers a lot lately.
Really like his soulful, but somewhat laid-back singing, the chilled, but funky grooves and the arrangements (especially the swelling strings). Could someone recommend similar artists? |

Richie is much more on the folk side than the soul/funk side, though, so he might not be what you have in mind. Richie Havens: The Lost Broadcasts DVD The Isley Brothers recorded an album of mostly folk/rock covers in 1971, called "Givin' It Back" which includes a song by Bill Withers with Bill himself on guitar. Might be closer to what you're looking for. The Isley Brothers - Cold Bologna (1971) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...wZ_AUdTLW8Thfw |
