Back in 1990, the funk-metal floodgates opened. Most of the time, the names tell you everything you need to know: Psychofunkapus, Scatterbrain, Limbomaniacs, Mindfunk, Sprawl, Sweet Lizard Illtet, Moneyspank, Electric Boys, Spin Doctors. All these bands are loosely aligned to the P-funk creed originally formulated by George Clinton and Bootsy Collins (“a creative nuisance… the recognition of stupidity as a positive force”) as reactivated and reinterpreted by the Chili Peppers with their combination of zany antics, horny-like-a-mutha lyrics and elasticated funk-rock.

This is a favorite from '91.

I have heard of this strange mix but still sounds like mostly metal and a sprinkle of tha funk.If ever such a taboo of music mixing were to take place then of course it had to be in tha 90's.

A few bands there I haven't heard of so vids please!

Funk Metal did kick off a little earlier though and here is a little curio for you:

The guitarist is one Tom Morello before he made it in RATM and this was 89 I think. Used to have this on Vinyl.

Living Colour made their debut in 88 and Electric Boys around the same time I think.

I always loved both genres. I think Rage does a decent job of the fusion, though it's quite hip hop influenced also.

My friends tried doing a band like this once, called themselves "Hard As Funk".

Cool name but they didn't get the sound quite right. Thanks for the suggests on this to everyone.

Hm I think Primus and Les Claypool's other groups are somewhat funk metal ( some of the songs at least) Sadly I'm unable to provide links as due to my low count of posts, since I joined today.

I never listened to Funk. But my dad loves Funk and Disco.
However, Whenever I hear a funky base guitar in one of my rock/metal/punk/ska songs or whatever, I love it xD.
I really want to listen to an infectious grooves album, since I like the suicidal tendencies.

Ah, okay, so I just learned it's called slap bass. It sounds ****ing awesome, I love it ^.^.
