The Album Filler A List...!

I'm gonna start something here, now maybe it's been done but anyhow how bout a listing of great album filler but you can only list one song per artist and the LP from which the song is taken..here goes-Born To Love You[Temptin Temptations]-When I'm With You[It All Comes Out In My Song-Jerry Butler]-Spring Again[Unmistakeable Lou-Lou Rawls]-I Cried All The Way Home[Dramatics Jackpot]-I Can't Turn Around[The Marvelettes-Pink Album]-Mr.Heartbreak[Dionne]-I Can't Find[Essar-Smokey]-Batucada Suite[Emerald City-Teena Marie]-Little Boy Blue[Never Ending Impressions-The Impressions].

I'm confused.

Doesn't "filler" mean that it's very much not great?

Hence the name. Yeah.

So the concept of this thread is... what? Makes Frownland's "I'm reviewing Key's pictures of insults about my music sent to the future from Key's copy of my account" thread easy to comprehend.

I think I'm supposed to post a bunch of filler tracks, for some reason. And it's somehow supposed to be a great list, even though it's made up of stuff that will guarantee the list to not be great. Quite a challenge!

I don't even remember fillers let alone remember which albums have them.

MicShazam 01-08-2019 10:54 AM

I think "filler" is a concept made up by people too impatient to go beyond the singles.

Or for artists to increase their track listing. Either way, I always skip over filler tracks.

All of this.

Nah it's a dying but real concept. It comes from early physical releases before "the album experience" really took hold. A lot of pop artists would record some singles and in order to put it out on an album for more revenue, they would record a few bull****ty tracks to fill out the rest of the record.

It definitely exists and is pervasive within the discographies of even good bands. Not every song's a winner. It's true though that the label gets occasionally misapplied to songs someone just doesn't like.

Weak bait, but I'll take it. Floyd have quite a bit of filler especially during the latter half of their career, and even on their best albums. Seamus from Meddle, for instance, is pointless. Same goes for If on AHM. Both Waters tracks, funnily enough.
