Gremlins 2 I thought had a great soundtrack.
Fats Domino – "I'm Ready" Jeff Beck – "Sling Shot" Jeff Beck – "Situation" Slayer – "Angel of Death" Johann Sebastian Bach – "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" Tony Randall – "New York, New York" Thompson Twins – "Bombers in the Sky" Damn Yankees – "Damn Yankees" Jasmine Guy – "Tuff Boy" Private Life – "Touch Me" Gordon Lightfoot – "If You Could Read My Mind" Faith No More – "Surprise! You're Dead!" |

Fight Club's soundtrack will always remain one of the most memorable to me. It had this really dirty, minimal electronic sound which rubbed me up in all the right ways. Props to The Dust Brothers.

It's probably been mentioned before (perhaps even by me), but I think John Williams score for the old Star Wars movies as the ultimate soundtrack. The music follows the plot of the movies, enhancing all the drama while still being thematic and instantly recognizable with a myriad of lovely themes.
I feel John Williams is seldom a favourite with music lovers and I think perhaps it's because they don't see what makes him great. I think the industry appreciates the way John Williams is able to make music for movies that contain both memorable themes and music which joins in the movie and becomes part of the plot. I think the latter is probably the biggest challenge and it's also something a lot of movie watchers don't think about. Anyone can make a song and slap that onto a film, but not everyone can make music that follows every dramatic twist and turn of a movie. edit : Many of the soundtracks mentioned here are nothing more than mixtapes fitting the theme of the movie. Not as impressive!

John Williams is great! Not only is his score for the Star Wars movies amazing, but so are his scores for a ton of other movies like the Indiana Jones films, Jaws, Close Encounters, Superman, Jurassic Park etc. All of those are very famous of course, but I've always felt like his score for Jurassic Park is somewhat underrated. For me the main theme captures this kind of heartbreaking beauty that's very well suited to the movie's more majestic moments.
