10 Songs for a Sunday Night

1. The Eagles ~ The Last Resort
2. Billy Joel ~ Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out on Broadway)
3. Camel ~ Rhayader Goes To Town
4. Rush ~ Red Barchetta
5. Bob Dylan ~ The Times They Are A-Changin’
6. Citay ~ Former Child
7. Pink Floyd ~ Wish You Were Here
8. Wishbone Ash ~ Northern Lights
9. Capability Brown ~ Garden
10. Simon & Garfunkel 7 O’Clock News/Silent Night

Total Time: 48:35

For my first compilation here, I threw in quite a few well known bands with only one real unknown, Capability Brown were a 70’s prog band with the Charisma label that never really reached any form of popularity despite making incredible music (anyone want their albums, give me a PM, can’t get them anywhere else, vinyls are incredibly rare and mostly too damaged and there was no re-issue on cd) Garden is one of their softer tracks.

The songs include two instrumentals: Northern Lights by Wishbone ash from their 2007 album The Power of Eternity, it’s a beautiful guitar instrumental however it is a departure from the rest of the album. It also includes the Camel instrumental from the snow goose, because it’s just that awesome.

It’s mainly all soft rock with nice messages and themes without being too coherent together, but it does work very well all together.

Link added, I'm listening to it now, the first four tracks complement each other perfectly and then there's a huge leap from rush to dylan that I feel works very well in that it builds up for the Citay track which will jump back down a bit for Floyd and then it will all end very well on a sombre tone with the last three tracks.

Wait wait wait, that’s OBSCURE?

1. Comus - Drip Drip
2. Goblin - Suspiria
3. Capability Brown - Sole Survivor
4. Wishbone Ash ~ Phoenix
5. Bodkin - Aftur Yur Lumber
6. Rare Bird - What You Want To Know
7. Room - War
8. Spirogyra - Van Allen’s Belt
9. Toad - Cottonwood Hill
10. Capability Brown - Redman

I know it has two Capability Brown songs, but I just wanted to get the message across on this one. For a lot of these I chose album openers because it is mainly all progressive rock and it’s normally best to be listened to in a coherent album setting, however the openers are usually far more accessible. The final song, Redman is a Rare Bird cover, which should be noted, the original however I feel isn’t as good, which is why I used a different Rare Bird song for their bit.

Some of it can be quite hard to get into, but other stuff you’ll think “What, how was this band not massive?”

Cheers, hey, just to stay within the rules, would I be able to do "Introduction to: *insert band here*" compilations?

Yeah just as long as it's not complete albums you'll be fine.

Goblin! Great choice and great film. Sounds like a good comp. I will give it a go!

Suspiria works so incredibly well with Drip Drip, it's a beautiful transition too.

This is a beginning and end introduction, the compilation starts out with four early songs, Time Was from Argus (third album), Handy from their self titled debut, Vas Dis and Lullaby from their second album Pilgrimage. It then launches into two tracks from their most recent album Power of Eternity (2007) followed by two tracks from their second last release 2006’s Clan Destiny. It then launches into Persephone from their fifth album There’s The Rub and then another track from Argus; Throw Down the Sword.

The Encore bonus tracks are Jail Bait from their second studio album Pilgrimage and Argus’s Blowin’ Free, then there’s a final live version of Jail Bait recorded a little over a month ago from a bootleg.

This play list is made mainly to show off their amazing playing and longevity in an industry where you have to change to survive.
