DK always had the best lyrics, and the singer wore washing-up gloves. Imagine that. Good tune, someone should do a compilation based on where all the hardcore bands went, musically, in the 80's.

Best thing I've heard all day. Makes me want to watch that film about lesbian vampires featuring David Bowie.

4.Echo & The Bunnymen – The Killing Moon
Classic. Like regular Coke.

I've met far too many people who didn't know what a Big Star was.

6.Nick Drake – Pink Moon
In the UK Brad Pitt narrated a BBC radio documentary about Mr. Drake. I still don't have any albums, this must be rectified.

7.Bob Dylan – Moonshiner
Yeah but he doesn't have tits does he?

8.The Doors – Moonlight Drive
According to Wiki this song was partially responsible for bringing the Doors together, like aural glue. mmm.

9.Can – Moonshake
Need to get the remastered SACD of this, really. Each Can album of the Suzuki era has a different vibe and Future Days is just Can taking off into the stratosphere.

10.Chrome – Blood on the Moon
A slice of menacing post-punk instrumental doom.:cool:

11.Brian Eno / David Byrne – Moonlight in Glory
So this is what they broke up the Talking Heads for? Really ahead of it's time.

12.My Bloody Valentine – Moon Song
Where the hell is this track from? Like all the best MBV it feels like being smothered in your own dreams.

13.His Name is Alive – Blue Moon
A very 4AD-esque take on the original.

14.Cat Power – Moonshiner
Ah that's better, tits.

15.Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention – Concentration Moon
This is so good. Could pass for an R.Stevie Moore song...

16.Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band – Moonlight in Vermont
This is what I signed up for with Beefheart really. It's those moments like at the end of this track where he really flexes his vocal muscles that send shivers down the spine. There seems to have been a backlash of people saying that Trout Mask is just ****, to them I say :finger:

17.Television – Marquee Moon
Hot ****. Still the best song on that album right?

18.Explosions in the Sky – The Moon is Down
Explosions in the Sky are useless to me, with my complete lack of musical subtlety. I own 'the Earth is not a cold dead place' and I hate them so much. Sorry. 'Hey man chill out and read a magazine, drink some coffee, it's all good' **** OFF

19.The Kronos Quartet – Half Wolf Dances Mad in Moonlight
This gave me the fear, but I loved it. Restored my faith in music after track 18. Apparently they've done a version of Marquee Moon...

20.Tod Dockstader – Two Moons of Quartermass, First Moon
Nothing like a bit of avant-garde electronica. I recommend Bruce Haack in this vein. Wasn't Quatermass a Philip K.**** thing?

Just for Cardboard Adolescent, a track about the downfalls of heroin. Twisted James Brown cover version.

2. B-I-D Spells Bid - the Monochrome Set
This band were like a big existential joke, at our expense.

3. The Pot Head Pixies - Gong
Certainly my favourite progressive-psych band of the Canterbury scene... Has anybody got a life I can borrow?

4. Alkaline Loaf in the Area - Essential Logic
Lora Logic was the saxophonist in X-Ray Spex. She left and formed her own band, who were better.

5. Bastardo - Charlotte Hatherley
Words fail me, so here's a football :soccer:

6. I Meant to Kill Him - Henry's Phonograph
My peeps. They put out one mini album in 4 years and I don't even have to pretend to enjoy their music.

7. Play To Win - Heaven 17
Formed by ex-members of Human League, from debut landmark Penthouse and Pavement. Say no to yuppies!

8. Pack the Pipe - the Pharcyde
Don't smoke crack either, just listen to this psychedelic hip hop classic.

9. Uno Fi Move - Shabba Ranks
So what is the difference between ragga and dancehall? Ragga is drum machines, guns and sex. The toasting style was massively influential on hip hop.

10. Joyride - Slew Dem
East London's sons of the Caribbean still going strong with Jammer's patented style of skanked-out 2-step.

i phrased that poorly... what i meant was that there was apparently alot of friction between Eno/Byrne and the Heads when he was producing them (they felt Eno was trying to conrtol the bands sound) which presumably led to the Tom Tom Club being formed and their eventual break up? Still at least we got 'Word Rappinghood' out of it, yo

If you have ever wondered what Motorhead would sound like if they were a hardcore band then meet the fattest junkies in the world ....Poison Idea

From 1980 till 1993 Poison Idea left a trail of booze , drugs , junk food & rock n roll in their wake as they pulverised audiences worldwide with their brand of old style rock n roll influenced punk rock. Included in this compilation is A.A. & Rubber Husband from their wonderfully titled Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes E.P. Lifestyles is the opener from their debut album Kings Of Punk. The Ian MacKaye E.P. is not named in tribute to the man but in mockery , Poison Idea were the antithesis of straight edge choosing the hedonistic rock n roll lifestyle rather than munching lettuce & drinking orange juice. Up Front is a Wipers cover from their covers album Pajama Party. The ultimate party album where the band proudly display their influences ranging from Elvis to Booker T & The MG's to the MC5 , to New York Dolls to The Damned to Motorhead , even the Go-Go's get a look in. The next 8 tracks are from the bands best 2 albums Feel The Darkness & Blank Blackout Vacant. Plastic Bomb is the blistering opener to their live shows. The Badge was covered by Pantera in a pitiful attempt to show how hard they are and that they're not really that hair metal band ... honest.
Feel The Darkness is the wonderful brooding title track from the album & quite possibly the bands best song ever. The 4 songs on Blank Blackout Vacant show the bands songwriting improving even more and see the band concentrating more on crushing your skull with heaviness rather than speed just like the way classic Motorhead used to. In fact the little bass solo during Crippled Angel could just as easily come from Overkill or Ace Of Spades album.
The compilation finishes off with Stare At The Sun. The closing track off that bands final album We Must Burn. The band split in 1993 when guitarist and founder member Tom 'Pig' Champion called it quits. They got back together in 2005 and recorded an album Latest Will & Testament but sadly on January 31st 2006 Pig Champion died & the album was released posthumously.

Nobody whoever heard or saw Poison Idea ever forgot them. Ask Jackhammer , he saw them live (Bastard!!!! :( ) . And in an age dominated by MTV the fact a bunch of ugly , drunk , overweight junkies can come out with some of the most awesome punk rock ever makes me feel a hell of a lot better.
