^ What it says on the can really. These are ten of my favourite songs from the Australian rock scene of the late 70s and 80s, and a good starting point for anyone curious about the whole thing (in my opinion of course).

1. The Triffids - Chicken Killer
2. The Church - Antenna
3. Radio Birdman - Murder City Nights
4. The New Christs - Coming Apart
5. The Saints - Wild About You
6. Midnight Oil - Truganini
7. Exploding White Mice- Just Plain Bad
8. The Lime Spiders - Action Woman
9. The Birthday Party - Dim Locator
10. Hoodoo Gurus - Tojo

I think a couple of these have been on some mixtapes I've made in the past. Also, the Triffids and the Birthday Party may seem odd choices, but they do loosely fall under the Aussie rock umbrella to me.

Anyway, enjoy!

Coming back to this -

1. The Triffids - Chicken Killer
This is like any other Australian 80s stuff. First impression always seems to be good, but nothing great. I'm sure it'll grow on me.

2. The Church - Antenna
Same as 1.

3. Radio Birdman - Murder City Nights
I've had this Radio Birdman album on my HD for quite a few months, without even touching it! Damn, I'm so hopeless sometimes :(. Liked it quite a bit. I'm goona give it a listen now.

4. The New Christs - Coming Apart
Intense stuff! Me likings.

5. The Saints - Wild About You
I love The Saints. Their first two releases are definitely worth a listen.

6. Midnight Oil - Truganini
Hehe, more Midnight Oil. I already got a couple of their stuff, but well, there's still more to go ;).

7. Exploding White Mice - Just Plain Bad
Didn't interest me to check out more tbh. Just Plain Bad I suppose :p:.

8. The Lime Spiders - Action Woman
More of this Australian garage-rock stuff...Argh! First impression is as always the same - Nothing great, but I guess it'll grow on me. Problem is that many of these bands just sound similar.

9. The Birthday Party - Dim Locator
I love those vocals! Otherwise, it's kinda hit or miss. Liked it the first time around, but didn't impress me during the second listen.

10. Hoodoo Gurus - Tojo
And here comes another one! I think listening to an album than a track here and there would be a better option.

Most of the tracks had something in it that interested me, but doesn't immediately blow me away.

ok, I listened to some compilations up to page 64, some I didn't like at all, some I liked, and some I especially enjoyed:

1, 4 and 10 are great choices, have those tracks already, but I really enjoyed "I found a reason" by Cat Power - really beautiful song!

PMO's 7 Deadly Sins: Gluttony

http://content8.flixster.com/questio...857842_std.jpg

Because i was bored and i wanted to see if i could do all of them. Don't expect a large amount of the songs to have any real strong link to the theme! Gluttony first.

1. Mclusky - Without MSG I Am Nothing
I song i can relate to too much :(
2. Tricky - Ponderosa
I drink 'till i'm drunk and i smoke 'till i'm senseless
3. Digital Underground - Oregano Flow (Gumbo Soup Mix)
Mmmm, soup.
4. Mr Scruff - Midnight Feast
Well it's just an instrumental so all you can go by is the title :s
5. The Undertones - Mars Bars
I predict anyone who listens to this mix will probably obsessively listen to the Undertones for the next few days as a result.
6. MF Doom - One Beer
Put on more for the cool samples at the end than anything else really.
7. Nouvelle Vague - Too Drunk To ****
Much classier than the original.
8. Ian Dury and the Blockheads - Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll
Because sometimes guilty pleasures are the best ones of all.
9. Raekwon - Ice Cream
Yeah it's a crap metaphor but it beats Cookie Jar by miles.
10. Four Tet - Sleep, Eat Food, Have Visions
And theres me in a nutshell :D

It's only 37 mins so worth a pop hopefully.

Great idea. Perhaps this should have it's own thread seeing how the comps have definitive themes.

Piss Me Off 01-16-2009 08:37 AM

Well i don't know how frequently i'll be doing them, and of course there's only so many i can do :D

That was pretty much my first impression of all those albums when I first heard them (well, except Midnight Oil and Radio Birdman). They do need a little time to grow on you though, especially in the case of the Triffids.

Anyway, thanks for listening :thumb:

Interesting concept, I'll be having a listen of this.

As for this mixtape, I was gonna post it tomorrow morning, but since I can't sleep I guess I'll do it now.

Just a bunch of up-tempo, relatively easygoing tunes to listen to when you get up in the morning and you're getting ready for uni/school/work/UN summits/whatever, with a couple of psychobilly standards thrown in for good measure.
