Thanks for the Nick Cave. I saw his song "Breathless" in Girl Skateboard's Yanks n' Planks video and loved it so I was looking into his music. You saved me a lot of searchin!

Great list though. I'd have included at least a song off Nocturama and No More Shall We Part, but some top picks there all the same :) |
Yeah not huge on NMSWP... And Nocturama was just a bore for me... I only wanted 10 picks per list, so I probably would have chucked Hallelujah on there if I added more.
Dunno why I dislike Breathless... |
Quote:
You're right about Nocturama, it has a couple of really good songs on it but otherwise it's a pretty lame album - somehow manages to be overlong and rushed at the same time. |

Any particular songs you would swap in/out? I was a little hesitant on 'The Hammer Song' but felt TGS deserved to be recognised despite being a down tempo album overall. With the more intense list I was a bit 80's heavy, and a bit 00's/late 90's heavy with the chilled list... But thats his natural progression in a lot of ways... |
I think you're more or less bang on target with the tracklisting, it's a great intro (and hopefully one a few people round here will put to good use). The only things I would've done would be to have the Witness Song in for the Hammer Song (but then again, they are two terrific songs) and have Brompton Oratory represent the Boatman's Call. Again though, the one you chose is another one his finest, more chilled-out numbers.
But, yeah, great mix. I'd be on it like a fly on a bowl of trifle if I didn't already have it :thumb: |

But really can't go wrong with The Boatman's, an amazingly consistent album. |
It was only a matter of time :D
A Beginner's Guide To Elvis Costello http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-imag...ostello460.jpg Seeing as I hope to bring my thread back from the dead sometime soon, I think I might as well publicize it this way. By the way, the reason there's nothing from My Aim Is True is simply because I forgot to upload a track from it and, frankly, I can't be arsed to delete the playlist I've got online to accommodate it. Anyway... A Beginner's Guide To Elvis Costello and the Attractions.rar 1. Let Them All Talk 2. Success 3. The Beat 4. Honey, Are You Straight Or Are You Blind? 5. Possession 6. New Lace Sleeves 7. Two Little Hitlers 8. You Little Fool 9. The Other End Of the Telescope 10. Sulky Girl 11. Sour Milk-Cow Blues ^ His better-known stuff. A Beginner's Guide To Elvis Costello's Other Stuff.rar 1. BTW...I have to say my personal faves were the songs off of "Showbiz", especially "Falling Down". Very bluesy feel to it, IMO. |
Is there any interest in a Mozart comp? I might be able to put one together.

i'd just like to re-iterate that gunnels' flawless Rush compilation changed my life forever since you philistines seem to have ignored it.
And Party Ranger! Classical belongs on budget-range CD's, shame on you :nono: I particularly recommend the Naxos library, they are cheap and performances tend to use acclaimed orchestras/composers. So no 'Jimmy Kong and the Trinidad Youth Orchestra'. |

Seriously though, I generally pick up what's available and cheaper is always better. |
The Beginner's Guide to Jonathan Coulton
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...n_Coulton.jpeg Jonathan Coulton is probably best known for his song work at the end of Valve's 2007 surprise hit "Portal". He also does a back page in Popular Science and proved that you don't need a record label to become popular. All his stuff is self released from his website (Jonathan Coulton). He use to post his songs up for free download, but after his popularity began to rise he now charges, something I'm happy to pay because his work is top notch. His topics range from the joys of being a computer programmer to bacteria, witty and at times very dark, he is not a musician to be passed up. Track Listing: Still Alive Code Monkey Skullcrusher Mountain RE: Your Brains Tom Cruise Crazy Ikea Creepy Doll Baby Got Back (Sir Mix-A-Lot Cover) The Presidents The Future Soon I Feel Fantastic Awesomeness Here |
Would anyone be interested in a Sufjan Stevens or Ben Folds comp?

Or the filesize you're trying to upload is over 100MBs. You can just up it in two parts if that's the case. |

The Beginners Guide To.............
King Crimson http://www.valladolidwebmusical.org/..._Crimson_1.jpg For those of you living in the dark. King Crimson were one of the early pioneers of progressive rock, and while the same can't be said for any other prog band, they have stayed fresh and consistant for 5 decades. They mixed elements of classical music, free jazz, european folk, psychedelic rock, ambient and straight up proto metal hard rock, and since Adrian Belew joined the group in 1981 they have also dabbled in world music, new wave and heavy metal. They specialize in heavy, rhythmically complex songs, but also have a taste for bombastic ballads and more challenging avant garde experiments. Guitarist/Keyboardist Robert Fripp has been the only consistant member of the group, other than him the group has gone through 5 singers, 7 bassists, 6 drummers, 2 guitarists, 2 saxophonists/flautists and 1 violinist. Many greatly talented musicians have come and gone. Because of these many lineup changes the band has managed to change up their sound for pretty much every album. But Fripp's presence gave the band something distinctive and recognisable, now matter what they did. They are probably the most influencial prog band overall, Tool and The Mars Volta especially owe a lot to them, but their influence goes beyond just prog. They have influenced everyone from Iron Maiden to Nirvana. And fans of the modern post metal movement should especially find something to like about this band, they have been putting out heavy avant rock long before it was fashionable. So yeah, I LOVE this band, and hopefully this comp will show you why. 1. 21st Century Schizoid Man - In the Court of the Crimson King (1969) 2. The Great Deceiver - Starless and Bible Black (1974) 3. Thela Hun Ginjeet - Discipline (1981) 4. Cadence and Cascade - In the Wake of Poseidon (1970) 5. Dinosaur - THRAK (1995) 6. The Night Watch - Starless and Bible Black (1974) 7.
