BTown 02-03-2010 03:23 PM

My bad I put California Uber Alles in there but forgot to label it.
And I don't consider the Minutemen Hardcore punk as awesome as they are.

Edit: Never mind, I forgot to put California Uber Alles in the folder I was compressing. Here it is for anyone that wants it:

A couple of mixes I've been meaning to do for quite some time now...

A Beginner's Guide To Brian Dougans & Garry Cobain

Another one dedicated to some of my very favourite artists. To give anyone who's not in the loop a nice, brief bit of back story, Brian Dougans and Garry Cobain are a couple of Mancunian DJs who emerged from the acid house scene of te late 80s and early 90s as one of the big success stories, scoring early dancefloor smashes in the shape of Papua New Guinea and Stakker. From their beginnings in acid house though, instead of sticking with that proven success formula, the duo not only began to delve into more left-of-centre IDM territory, utilising elements of ambient, trip-hop, progressive house and even jazz and psychedelia, but they also began to record and independtly release an absolutely insane amount of EPs and LPs under a confusingly large variety of pseudonyms. The pair have released work over the years under literally dozens of monikers, so the mixes below really are the tip of the iceberg here, seeing as the majority of their work is only available on their official website.

Anyway, the below mixes are the best of the stuff I've got which, as you can see, is more than enough albums to keep a fan occupied for a bit. Hopefully anyone who hasn't heard any of this stuff before (a couple of the tunes were on the electronica mixes I made a little while back) will be curious enough to sample these, as Cobain and Dougans are definitely two of the most talented composers in electronic music. Basically, the first mix represents their more urban, house-influenced (to varying degress) side, while the Amorphous Androgynous one explores psychedelic electronica, and does a pretty damn fine job of it too.

Enough rambling anyway. Pics are the links, and I've hotlinked a couple of tracks from either mix to their respective youtube clips if anyone wants a quick, pre-download listen.

I've heard everything on the FSOL comp so no need to grab it, but those are great choices. The AA comp on the other hand, I've heard none of, so getting that for sure. Really excited to check it out actually...thx for putting it together. :)

This was put together and uploaded in around 30 mins so if there are a few gaps- tough crap!

Jethro Tull are an English Rock band that began life as a blues band but quickly assimilated themselves in to the English Prog scene of the early 70's. Where JT distinguished themselves from that scene is down to main man and perennial member Ian Anderson. A self confessed eccentric whose unique stage presence playing the flute whilst stood on one leg with his wild flaming hair made JT stand out both musically and physically from the multitude of Prog bands of the 70's.

Taking influences more from Folk and Old English poems and fables instead of musical dexterity earnt JT a unique place in the genre and a sound that still remains all their own even if their 90's output conformed to generic cliched Dad rock :(

Here is a comp that spans over 20 years and proof that prog songs can be made in under 5 minutes!

Tracklisting:

1. Song For Jeffrey
2. Cross-Eyed Mary
3. Farm On The Freeway
4. Broadsword
5. Pussy Willow
6. Heavy Horses
7. Flyingdale Flyer
8. Teacher
9. Minstrel In The Gallery
10.Beggar's Farm
11.Skating Away (On The Thin Ice Of The New Day)
