I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

As Tore requested, an explanation. The Caretaker track (well that entire album) was actually based on The Shining. Although it didn't really fit the 'normal' idea of cyberpunk, the song for me sounds like something a protagonist (Deckard f.e.) would attempt to listen to and appreciate, only for a wall of mechanisation to impede him. The humanity of the track has been stripped down to create something that attempts to pass itself as human, but is nothing such.

MIGHT just be me, but I think the themed compilations are more popular than the normal ones

I'm guessing it will depend a bit on the theme. But yeah, personally I think it's more satisfying to be creative within some kind of framework - like you have to find something to fit an idea like cyberpunk rather than just whatever. I also think it builds a little more expectation for the comp (which is good) and I'm generally more curious to hear the other contributions when I know they went through the same creative challenge as me.

Hopefully the next theme will be as popular as this one!

Considering a few peeps, me included, weren't all too sussed on the cyberpunk theme i think people did a good job here overall. Kept the theme but wasn't enormously samey.

Explanation for my choice (Suicide): I was in the Blade Runner train of thought and looked for something that reflected that, i think the song suits walking down the dark grimy streets in the film. That and a band from the punk movement using synth is a logical choice

Personally I hadn't even considered instrumental songs. I had never really thought of the cyberpunk theme in music I listen to but I think far more of my music would have fit than I originally thought. As a result I went for something that was too obviously "me". I was looking for lyrical content that fit the theme, but after listening to the comp I see that bleak instrumentals worked just as well. I also realized, trying to listen to it as an outsider, that my song is not likely to make anyone a Skinny Puppy fan. It's not the most approachable of their songs (not that that was the goal) and I should have gone with one of the others I considered.

Well, for anyone that's not aware, I picked that Billy Idol track because it's from his album Cyberpunk, which is a sort of concept album about this kind of thing, and the song itself is named after a book by William Gibson that was one of the first really big cyberpunk novels. Plus I really like the song. The album was a huge flop in its day and pretty much killed Billy Idol's career, but I actually think it's very good and extremely underrated.

I chose the first thing I thought of basically. The track isn't especially brilliant (Fear Factory) but I like the tempo and it reminds me of a chase down a back street and action per se regarding a subject such as this and of course if you have no idea what cyberdyne is then shame on you!

I loved the Ayreon track and have the Ambeon album Fate Of A Dreamer which is a side project of the band, however I personally didn't think it tied in to well with the overall theme.
