Selah by Lauryn Hill. I found this one in Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood :P It's now one of my top favourite songs of all time. So insanely beautiful.

Blue Foundation - "Eyes on Fire"

When I watched "Twilight," one song in the soundtrack (besides Supermassive Black Hole!) stuck in my mind, haunting me a little. The movie only uses the beginning portion of this song, which is my favorite part. It features a grungy-sounding guitar and the singer's ethereal "aahing." That portion made me curious enough about the rest of the song to track it down by reading about the Twilight (2008) soundtrack.

I learned that Blue Foundation is a Danish band that once included Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjærg, who I assume is the singer in the official song video (below). The video for "Eyes on Fire" is interesting to me because it shows a classically trained ballet dancer using a fraction of her skills to do dancing in a club in depressing-looking Chelyabinsk, a city I'd never heard about before:

Quote:
About "Eyes on Fire"

The Official Blue Foundation "Eyes on Fire" Music Video featuring dancer Masha Greif, was shot in the nightclub "The Black Hole" in the Russsian city of Chelyabinsk, located in the foothills of the Ural Mountains.

During the Cold War, the city did not appear on any official maps and was a closed off atomic zone, which produced tanks and the first atomic bomb of the Soviet Union.

For 45 years, Chelyabinsk was closed to all foreigners and journalists.
Only in January of 1992 did President Boris Yeltsin sign a decree changing that.

For decades the atomic complex Mayak has let out radioactive water directly into the Techa, Chelyabinsk's largest river. Scientists and enviromental organisations call the area 'one of the the most polluted places' on earth.

Besides its war industry, the city is has a very vibrant dance scene.
The video reminds me of drab East German apartment buildings I've been in. When I watch the video, I recall all the times I walked up dim, dirty stairs in pre-war buildings where the marred, tan stucco walls appear unchanged from years ago. Those old buildings always fascinated me because of their aura of decay and history.

The beginning of the song, the part I like, makes me feel as if it is about repressed emotions and something longed for, such that the situation as it is isn't quite right. I like this non-verbal part best. After reading the lyrics for the song, I realize the song is about chilly and aggressive self-protection, which causes the video to make more sense to me:

Now I plan to look up the dancer, Masha Greif ...

... All I learned is that "Masha Greif is one of the best dancers in Russia and winner of The Golden Mask dance prize 2007 in Moscow." Golden Mask {About}

Lindsey Buckingham - "Holiday Road"

I was thinking of how amusing Chevy Chase is in those "Vacation" movies like "European Vacation," when I remembered that I always liked the happy theme song, which cheers me up when I hear it.

So I looked up the song and learned it is by Lindsey Buckingham. And when I looked up Lindsey Buckingham (Lindsey Buckingham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia), I learned he "is an American guitarist, singer, composer and producer, most notable for being the guitarist and male lead singer of the musical group Fleetwood Mac."

I had no idea that the song I liked from the Vacation movies was by someone who was an important part of Fleetwood Mac! This song makes me curious about others by him.

Nasty Habits - DV8
from Tommy Chong's 'Far Out Man (1990)'

Wish I could find this tune with just the music and not the movie dialog.

I couldn't find this particular DV8 band's "Nasty Habits" song by itself either, when I just checked. I did find *another* song called "Nasty Habits," but it was by a jazzy group that appears to call itself DV8, and the song was entirely different than the one used at the beginning of the movie "Far Out Man."

Thanks for the suggestion!

While listening through a few songs by Lindsey Buckingham to find some off the album "Go Insane," I stumbled on the following song by him, "Time Precious Time." The song struck me with its rapid acoustic guitar playing. The speed of the acoustic guitar creates the sense of time rushing by and serves almost as a foil for the meaning of the song, which encourages listeners to take all the time they want.

"I'm Still Here" by Johnny Rzeznik. It's from the movie Treasure Planet. It's a feel good song, and you've probably heard it before.
