How can we define Avant-Garde when it's not a genre or style? I think its sub-genres are enough to define it. When I think of avant-garde I think of guys like John Cage, Stockhausen, Harry Partch etc. Nurse With Wound, no matter how experimental, is still a part of 'popular music', Industrial specifically. They (he) are however one of the kind, so maybe avant-garde, or experimental industrial would fit better.

Really anything that captures the spirit of the movement effectively. It's nearly impossible to choose a defining song for any of the genres without it also falling under one of it's sub genres. Speaking of that, I'd like to nominate radio-standard and anthem of psuedo-troubled youths everywhere...

I really do believe this is the ultimate rock song. Overplayed or not, it really captures the spirit of loud, rebellious rock n roll and no matter what style you predominantly enjoy - you can't help but like it. It's naive, sincere, four chord goodness.

THANK YA CONAN

But I've noticed there isn't a place for classic rock, which is a bitofashame. So I'm thinking maybe it should be included and this could be the song?

I like the live version more than the original, personally.

And for Korean Pop: Wondergirls- Stupid

And I'm thinking perhaps an early Beatles song for all of pop?

And for Ambient House, it's time to get our Orb on...

The entire reason I know of Steve Reich is because of this song.
