The Official Cricket Thread

Who the hell is going to win?

I don't even know whats been happening, I heard Pakistan's coach was murdered in his hotel after their loss to Ireland, is the team pulling out of the Cup? What a shit thing to have happen to a team.

New Zealand is going strong in my opinion, we actually have a batting lineup that is finally doing some consistant hitting. South Africa and Australia are right up there but I've not seen any of their games. Don't they play each other sometime really soon? Australia need Symonds back I reckon, he's a huge contributor. And how do the English here rate their team? I really like hearing about cricket at the moment, not that I'm anywhere up to speed it's just so much more welcoming than the rugby. I think it's crap how the rugby season is taking over as an all year long sport now.

I'll get a poll up and we'll see who reckons what teams will make the finals and win. Oh and tell me if I've left anyone out, I can't remember what the Top 8 teams are at the moment.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-24-2007 03:47 PM

You gotta fancy Australia after the way they spanked South Africa today.
I do think New Zealand stand a good chance too they've been pretty impressive from what i've seen.
I think England will slowly get better they have a point to prove after losing to New Zealand and being caught in clubs at 4am.

Merkaba 03-24-2007 03:51 PM

Oh man, wasn't it Freddy Flintoff who got pissed and capsized a boat that night?

And Aus won? I'm going to go find the score sheet for that one, Ponting probably scored another 100 or something.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-24-2007 05:10 PM

You missed out the West Indies which is kinda funny seeing that they're hosting the thing

Sparky 03-24-2007 05:25 PM

i tried hard understanding cricket while in england, i truly did.

it just...its...really..

i dont know, i did like the outfits though :)

_Spinning_ 03-25-2007 02:34 PM

/patriotic.

I say the Kiwi's have a shot.
But after watching Australia spanking the living shit out of South Africa, I am a little concerned.

Merkaba 01-05-2008 09:14 PM

If someone wouldn't mind changing the thread title and dropping the poll I think this can be our cricket thread.:)

I love my cricket in the Summer. Any other time of the year and I'm not too fussed, but give me some awesome weather, a holiday, a couple of home one-dayers and a couple of test matches and I'm happy. The perfect excuse to watch telly on a nice day.

So New Zealand has just won the one day series, and today won the first of the test matches against Bangladesh. And it's been quite convincing but you can never be too convinced given Bangladesh are minnows in the cricketing world. I would love to play Australia again although they're easily the best team around right now.

Looking forward to thrashing England in a few weeks, shouldn't be too hard.

Blain 01-07-2008 12:33 AM

I'm a failure of an Aussie, cricket is one of the most boring sports to watch ever.

Though, extreme backyard cricket rips it up.

scottsy 12-28-2008 08:38 AM

I dunno, since I moved here to the States I kinda miss Cricket... its the perfect Australian summer sport. You can be lazy watching it, drink beer and still follow it mainly because the pace isn't so fast you miss stuff in a blind daze.

There's something peaceful and idyllic about spending a hot Australian summer day on a couch watching the cricket...

Certainly sounds appealing with all this snow on the ground and all this sub - zero weather we've been having here in Milwaukee...

Oh yeah, Blain, backyard and beach cricket rule... especially if you own the bat and ball because then you get to make up the rules.

Astronomer 12-29-2008 05:47 PM

Oh my god I hate cricket so much but it's all they are playing on television at the moment.

right-track 12-29-2008 05:54 PM

^ You shouldn't complain...they have it on the radio here.
Imagine that!
It's like listening to paint drying.

Astronomer 12-29-2008 05:55 PM

^ No, they have it on the radio here too! And in during the advertisements they are showing the previews to 'Shane Warne the Musical.'

Seltzer 12-29-2008 08:02 PM

Not much love for cricket on MB? This makes me a sad panda. :(

but everyone loves the old Radio 4 Cricket Commentary! It's brilliant background listening

"oh look, there goes another one of those new bendy buses!"

scottsy 12-29-2008 08:25 PM

I always loved the fact that during the boring bits of the game they'd show some of the scenery around the grounds, lime Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne or in Adelaide they'd show one of those rickety "popeye" boats that float down the "river" Torrens...

Or the randomly selected bikini clad woman using the game as an excuse to sunbathe - not sure how often the do that one now though in these politically correct times...

Astronomer 12-29-2008 09:32 PM

^ Oh they still do it.

I love Cricket. I am a member of the Gabba in Brisbane and try to make all the tests and one dayers. I am watching Aus V SA as I type. I watch all the tests if they are on Cable no matter who is playing. Last week I watched the NZ v Windies.

In English cricket I follow Sussex as I lived in that part of the world for a few years. In Australian Cricket Qld. I have a huge soft spot for NZ who I think put in as much as they can considering the lack of population and money. NZ population just over 4 million. India 1.1 billion.

scottsy 01-02-2009 08:55 PM

Is South Australia losing or winning - I am, at heart, if not in location, an Adelaide boy, and you can take me out of the place, but you can't take the place out of me, ya know? Go the redbacks!

Damn, now I am homesick, picturing either the Gabba or Adelaide Oval... I miss Australia... :-(

4ZZZ 01-03-2009 12:41 AM

The Redbacks lost to the Vics last night in a 20/20 bash. Good game.

scottsy 01-03-2009 08:29 PM

Bummer that SA lost though, ahh well, them's the breaks, eh??

zeppy111 01-15-2009 06:26 AM

SA vs aus in the first ODI tomorrow if I remember correctly.

Proteas got knocked around in both pro20's

I made it to the 20/20 game. Made it to the pub after as well but I don't remember leaving

scottsy 01-16-2009 10:28 PM

Those are always the best trips to the pub, in my opinion...

4ZZZ 01-16-2009 11:13 PM

SA won in a thriller yesterday. SA are a country on the rise.

zeppy111 01-17-2009 01:13 AM

Duminy is on top form. can't say the same for gibbs, he needs to get back into rehab or dropped

Fruitonica 01-17-2009 02:42 AM

That was such a tense game, Australia really dropped the ball in those last couple of overs, they had SA on the ropes.

zeppy111 01-17-2009 01:06 PM

Waking up at 1 am tomorrow morning to watch the game... excited!

Hopefully my local boys can pull off another win, I doubt they will though

Impressive first viewing for me. Good in the test matches. Thats where it counts. Makes Princes place in the side problematical.

zeppy111 01-18-2009 01:01 AM

Tests are how cricket should be played. This whole pro20 wave pisses me off to the max!

It is always good to have some competition and I think you are right about Duminy pushing prince for the outright spot in the test side

You speak my language. But.............. it is seemingly generating huge income and also the couple of games that I have been to more children are coming with the parents. As much as I am annoyed, if it pays for test cricket to stay alive I will begrudgingly live with it.

Exciting finish to todays one dayer. I thought SA were going to make it for a while there but a run a ball plus at the halfway mark is always difficult when chasing a total of 250.

Astronomer 12-29-2010 02:09 AM

England won The Ashes in Australia, a lifetime first for me. I am quite ashamed!

s_k 03-13-2011 09:24 AM

Wait. Confused.
I thought with cricket you had to shoot balls through low hoops at low speeds.
This looks more like a strange kind of baseball to me?

MoonlitSunshine 03-13-2011 11:01 AM

you're thinking of Croquet, s_k...
