Man The Lakers dont mess around, Mike Brown was fired after they're 1-4 start to this season today. Rumors are circling about bringing back Phil Jackson already but I doubt that has a chance of happening. As much as I hate to see the Lakers get off to this sluggish of a start. I think it does however void the theory of money instantly buys championships. You can have all the talent in the world but if the coaching isn't what it should be, you can close the door on winning a championship. For years I've heard how Phil shoud not be regaurded as one of the leagues all time best coaches because of the amount of talent he always had to work with. Well I think this years Lakers are a testiment of how little talent can mean without the right coach.

I really hope they have a backup plan (I would think they had a successor chosen already).

That Jazz game was a disgrace, worst defensive intensity, that probably cinched it.

The fact that Mike Brown was supposedly a defensive guru was perplexing. This is the worst looking Lakers D in history. I know Pau and Blake/Nash are gonna be filler, but Kobe/Howard/Artest should have made them average at least.

Pau actually plays good D on conventional bigs, he just can't keep up with hybrid / speed guys a la Blake Griffin (few bigs can).

I don't buy the people that call out Jackson for the talent he was surrounded with. I mean he had Pippen and Jordan and a serviceable Horace Grant. They had Will Perdue at Center and Paxson as a point. That isn't exactly a mind blowing squad. Sure they upped the ante with the Worm later, but those Bulls teams were not World stoppers, Jordan and Pippen were just that good and so was Jackson.

Yeah the speed of the game has certainly evolved to the point where traditional bigs can't keep up at points. Pau was never really able to handle the power houses either.

Two calls and they can still make the parade route. Got Phil and Tex?
