Well the WHL took the week off leading up to (US) Thanksgiving, the Everett Silvertips played their first game back home (with yours truly in attendance) in two weeks after sweeping a four game east conference road swing. Saskatoon was in town and the Tips beat 'em like they stole something, tying a franchise record with five (count 'em) power play goals on only seven chances, for a 5-1 win. In fact all but the first of those goals were scored mere seconds into the penalty.

Look for Josh Winquist to go places, he's set a team record with 18 straight games with at least a point, collecting three more assists last night and drawing two Blades penalties on one rush.

Love the WHL

Nice to see Alfie pick up a goal and an assist tonight in his return to Ottawa. There's no team I despise more than the Senators, so it was good to see them get burnt even more from Alfie's departure.

In other hockey news, tough loss for the Mooseheads tonight in the QMJHL. It's rare to see them not pot a single goal. Two losses in a row now. Here's to hoping they pick it back up on Thursday.

Sportsnet's coverage is awful. I like the new deal in the sense that more games will be on national TV, but Sportsnet's coverage is by far the worst out of TSN/CBC/Sportsnet. Happy to see HNIC will still be around for a little bit longer at least.

Agreed although some of CBC's panel is terrible too. Watching the leafs game over the weekend and they had Kypreos as a guest and he and PJ Stock were just going off on how the leafs are losing because they lack grit. Like wtf how can anyone thats not insane actually believe that. I cringe at the HNIC panel just as much as the Kypreos/McLean dynamic duo. Atleast TSN has competent guys and im hoping that Sportsnet does the smart thing and nabs some of those guys after this year.

Also Don Cherry is a parody of himself can he plz retire good lord.

Well at least you guys get games. We who refuse to pay for cable are stuck with MAYBE one game on Saturday (at least here in the Pacific Northwest, unless I suppose we finally get a team) on NBC which does an ok job covering the games. Even then, they put playoff games, even cup finals games, on their cable network.

I sure miss having Gary Thorne call the games, that guy was just the tits.

Thank goodness for tunein radio

People in my area who don't have cable probably won't be able to watch games on TV anymore since the only over-air channel that carried them was CBC. F*cking Rogers cable, those greedy ass bastards. They apparently even got Bettman in on this deal by bringing him into a hockey themed conference room.

Anyways I hope the Leafs are all healthy soon (apparently Lupul skated today which is a good sign) and hopefully Kessel picks up his game a little.

Yeah. A lot of it used to be on CBC with Hockey Night in Canada, and then most of it moved to TSN/CTV and now that Rogers Sportsnet has most coverage rights I'm assuming a lot of games will be on there. I also get Leafs TV which shows some games and also more stuff like exclusive in depth interviews and such.

@Burning Down: Actually, people will get to see more games if they have basic cable. They'll now have the ability to show games on CBC, Sportsnet, Sportsnet ONE, Sportsnet 360, and City TV. You could hypothetically have 5 different games being shown at once on national TV on a Saturday night. Not sure how often they'd do that but they did talk about it.

CBC is all about tradition for me, so I'd be sad to see it go. So many memories watching HNIC growing up. Don Cherry can be a joke, but I still look forward to his rants.

I'll be interested to see what happens with Bob McKenzie. He's easily the best hockey analyst/talking head out there, but he seems pretty loyal to TSN.

Oh yeah same. I always remeber watching playoffs on HNIC and im pretty sure the only reason Sportsnet didnt can it off the bat is because Canadians would riot over that nostalgia. But theyve pretty much been a joke for a while now and I have a hard time watching or caring about them when Healy and Stock doing their usual dumb banter while Elliotte tries to babysit them. It's the same with Ron MacLean and Don Cherry. I avoid watching him now because everything he says just infuriates me haha. His view on hockey is so incredibly dated; he's just not relevant anymore.

From what ive heard McKenzie will likely stay on TSN for those odd nhl games theyll get per year. But guys like Ferraro, Johnson or Duthie could easily move on. Im hoping Sportsnet recognizes what an advantage it would be to pick some of these guys up but i mean they pay Doug MacLean so i have low hopes.
