NHL Thread

I've noticed that there wasnt an official NHL thread in this forum. So I made one..and to make a toast. Last night, one of the greatest goals in history was scored.

djchameleon 01-18-2008 05:12 PM

yeah when I saw this thread I was going to post that vid.....very awesome

anticipation 01-18-2008 06:05 PM

i hate rick nash, but i'll admit that was the best goal of the season.

tonight: hawks vs av's
so stoked.

Nosmada 01-19-2008 11:43 AM

This is Nash's break out year, there was alot of hype around him coming into the league. He has amazing talent for his size.

Now with crosby injuried, the Sundin to Pittsburgh rumors are gunna heat up.

Nosmada 01-19-2008 01:12 PM

Maurice in my opinion, has really done an alright job, with what team he has been giving to coach. JFJ i agree should be canned. The leafs for any trade regarding Sundin would be looking at getting something better than philly got for forsberg, who had 40 points to date of that trade and issues with health, sundin to date has 51 points, in that trade for Forsberg, Philly got Scottie Upshall, Ryan Parent (minors currently, first round pick for team canada junior) and a 1st and 3rd round pick. Alot of the rumors for sundin have involved Jordan Stall and picks. Which could be good.

Nosmada 01-19-2008 03:53 PM

Well that is the plan, if you want to call it that sundin is a true blue leafs guy, he dosent even want to leave in the first place. But pittsburgh will probably over pay to get him now, because of the injury to sydney crosby. The leafs have to play it right wait until the last minute to make the trade u might be able to get a little more.

under 01-19-2008 07:52 PM

i never actually got much into NHL as much as i did in NFL but im planning on getting into it a lot more because my buds at school are always talking about it and i want to be in that kind of conversation where i know what the hell im talking about.

Nosmada 01-20-2008 10:23 AM

Ya you should man it is a great game.

under 01-20-2008 12:23 PM

im sure it used to be much better than it is. some people say it was much easier to get into it than it is now due to all the changes that its been through and such which.

but im hoping to get into it. im pretty sure i would enjoy it.

Nosmada 01-20-2008 06:50 PM

I think the rule changes really make it more of a european fast pace kind of game. Where the canadian game is more rough and tough kind of game, but now we have to change how we play, and i think they new rule changes make it easier for a new person to get into the game, things like shoot outs and higher scoring, is probably more attractive to and average fan. For me though i want some of the old hard hitting kind of games, cause thats what its like growing up playing my minor hockey.

under 01-21-2008 11:50 AM

yeah, but with the rule changes you cant have the same dynamic conversations as other people because you dont know about half the stuff they are talking about because they were in it with the old rules before anything changed.

ProggyMan 01-21-2008 03:05 PM

The Sharks always get pounded by the Wings...****ing pissing me off.

Laces Out Dan! 01-21-2008 05:23 PM

My Nucks are 0-3 against the Sharks this year :(

Lizzie 01-21-2008 06:14 PM

hockey is the only sport i like or watch. but then again what canadian doestn like hockey? Canucks are not playing to well unfortunatly

Laces Out Dan! 01-21-2008 06:37 PM

They've gone down in the division lately. But they're still having a good season and I think when they get back to full strength, roster wise..they'll go on some more runs.

Lizzie 01-21-2008 06:46 PM

Lets hope so:) i hate seeing them loose

Laces Out Dan! 01-21-2008 06:48 PM

yea, sucks when they're all loose.
They play tonight at 7.

The Sharks are so frustrating..."Hey, let's dominate the playoffs until the Western Conference finals where we'll totally fold against a physically inferior Calgary team! It'll be really cool to how everyone reacts to us settling for bad shots all game!"

Laces Out Dan! 01-21-2008 07:47 PM

How can you call Calgary inferior physically. They're one of the grittiest teams in the NHL imo. Considering they're my Nucks main rivals, I see it a lot.

ProggyMan 01-21-2008 08:04 PM

I'm talking about '04. I think San Jose got intimidated by a smaller, slower team. Albeit one with cooler uniforms.

Laces Out Dan! 01-21-2008 09:16 PM

Burrows with an absolute beauty.

Nosmada 01-21-2008 09:16 PM

that calgary was based around one thing, its a canadian thing and its called heart. The took Sutters mentality and created a team around it. Its the same mentality he installed into our junior program, and that why we win 4 in a row. That Calgary team was a very quick team.

you watching the game i am guessing, what the score. The game is blacked out here, stupid sportsnet.

Laces Out Dan! 01-21-2008 09:19 PM

1-1. Wild scored about a minute before Burrows' goal.

Nosmada 01-21-2008 09:28 PM

Well good luck, be happy you have a team that wins. Toronto is about making money, they put a crap product out year after year, yet the fans keep going.

Which is why it's been 15 years since a team from Canada's won the Stanley Cup.

i am talking about canadian players, and the Canadian coach like sutter, it had nothing to do with weither the team is canadian or not, if that team was from atlanta, i would have the same opinion its the type of hockey they played.

Well, the odds are a little against us. You know, considering there are 24 American teams..and only 7 Canadian.

Nosmada 01-22-2008 12:42 PM

Hey guys, its almost All Star break (Jan 27th), and i am just wondering who people think, will win it all this season. Me I hate to say it but i think Ottawa might make it this year, and like every year Detorit will have a great chance, so there are my picks. Detroit vs Ottawa in stanley cup.

Nosmada 01-23-2008 06:50 PM

So the JFJ days in toronto are over, now lets see what Cliff Fletcher does. Trade Sundin please ( build for the future).

Statistically it's been about 10 years overdue.

And seeing as (in the past not so much now) your typical player would've rather played for an American team because the pay was so much better. It's not like Americans have been winning the cup, there's plenty of Canadian players playing in American teams.

ProggyMan 01-23-2008 09:53 PM

You know the NHL has a salary cap, right?

sleepy jack 01-23-2008 09:58 PM

Lol you realize it's one salary cap right? For both Canada and America? And prior to the rise in Canadian dollar which would you rather have gotten 50 million in American or Canadian?

Laces Out Dan! 01-23-2008 11:37 PM

Nucks win tonight in SO. Good ol' two points. Daniel's Shootout goal was pretty to say the least.

Nosmada 01-24-2008 02:40 PM

Good win by Vancouver, congrats __Les, leafs have won 4 of 5 but we are hopeless.

Discuss.

I think, if Rob Ramage is getting jail time, I do not know his sentence or if he has even been sentenced yet, Heatly should be in jail or just out of jail, after serving his time ( great player thought).

Nosmada 01-30-2008 08:49 PM

So what was the general opinion of this past weekends, All-Star Festivities. I think that shoot out thing was crap. but thats just me.

ProggyMan 01-30-2008 08:56 PM

Nabokov was awsome last night.

The reason Heatley isn't in jasil is because he wasn't driving drunk. This is coming from a Leafs fan, so don't think there is any bias, but he should be in jail at all. The entire notion of it is absurd, as it is with anyone. If two sober people get into a car and drive like mad, and crash and die, without injuring anyone, then hwat's the problem? They both new what they were doing, Snyder could've asked Heatley to slow down at anytime, or even tell him to let him out, but he didn't. the fact is they we're a couple kids goofing around. Sadly it cost Dan his life, but they both knew the possible consiquences of their actions, and used poor judgement.

It's sad it ended how it did, but they both responsible not just Heatley, therefore he shouldn't have any jailtime, nor should anyone in such a situation. Loose your license forever, sounds about right. If alchohol had been involved or they killed someone in another vehicle then yes I'd say jail time was required. But once again not under these sad circumstances.
