The olympic games - Beijing 2008

http://cache.boston.com/universal/si...08_08/oly4.jpg

It's begun! What about the opening ceremony? I thought it was a little underwhelming considering the ENORMOUS expectations I had but some moments still gave me goosebumps, like the giant fireworks footprints across Beijing, the drums at the beginning, the Tai chi, the people with the lights.

Anyways, will you be watching? What sports and athletes in particular? Share!

right-track 08-08-2008 01:54 PM

I heard the 3 hour spectacle cost £3,000 per second ($8,000 dollerydoos)...

Piss Me Off 08-08-2008 01:58 PM

Those photos are beautiful.
I'm a bit embarassed i forgot all about it! :(

Sparky 08-08-2008 02:40 PM

Denmark is gonna take it all this year

jackhammer 08-08-2008 03:01 PM

I always watch the athletics especially the Javelin, High Jump and all the running disciplines. We usually do quite well in the men's relays. I will keep up online.

lucifer_sam 08-08-2008 03:58 PM

Usually I don't listen to the bullcrap my brother sifts through but I think he's right about the Olympics becoming a giant soul-sucking entity.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-08-2008 09:43 PM

These games are just crying out for someone to upset the Chinese.

This whole thing is just one big PR exercise for the Chinese government. I would love it if just one athlete sticks it to them on the podium.

Can't see it happening though , today's athletes are far too worried about sponsorship deals to upset anyone.

Laces Out Dan! 08-08-2008 09:50 PM

I feel so bad for the athletes who have to compete in the polution. I probably won't watch all that much, I really only watch basketball in the summer, hockey in the winter. I'll watch some baseball this year and probably some of the sprints as well.

littleknowitall 08-09-2008 11:28 AM

I'm very much looking forward to the judo.

Anyone notice how during the athletes parade when Iraq made an appearance the cameras shot up to George Bush?

ProggyMan 08-09-2008 10:05 PM

Holy ****ing ****, Latvia? ****ing joking me?

lucifer_sam 08-09-2008 10:21 PM

At least Michael Phelps got his seventh gold medal (and broke a WR).

What are we talking about here?

right-track 08-10-2008 03:10 AM

Beach Volleyball?
The Yanks got their arses kicked.

adidasss 08-10-2008 03:15 AM

Oh, I thought it was something more shocking (and important) like basketball or something...:\

right-track 08-10-2008 03:16 AM

It was a shock. Weren't they supposed to be the worlds best?

adidasss 08-10-2008 04:05 AM

Well I don't think it's a sport they've consistently dominated for a number of years...I'm not sure but isn't Brazil a much bigger superpower there...?*unsure*

right-track 08-10-2008 04:17 AM

Dunno...I was going off this report from the Boston Globe;
Latvians stun US champions - The Boston Globe

Reigning world champions it says...which in Americanese, probably means the best in their own backyard. ;)

Haha...good one sir...;)

ProggyMan 08-10-2008 10:27 AM

Considering last time we played the Latvians we won in 32 minutes...It was very competitive this time around though, even if the Latvians had come close it would have been surprising.

The olympic games - beijing 2008

hey guys, have you seen the gymnastic between the U.S and China...
Oh... The US didn't make it, well good for the China they won a gold.
Keep it up athletes!

lucifer_sam 08-15-2008 08:18 PM

Michael Phelps just tied the record for most gold medals in a single Olympics and reset the record as the world's winningest olympian.

His last race came down to a hundredth of a second's difference, and the last few strokes were spectacular.

The US Men took Bronze, Women took Silver and the US took gold and silver in womens individuals.

adidasss 08-16-2008 04:37 AM

The athletic competitions have started! Weee! That's the most exciting even of the Olympics for me (plus, there's lots of georgeus men to look at :D )

Anywho, congrats to Phelps, absolutely fantastic.

I'd also like to note that I always kinda root for the chinese because I have a feeling they're gonna be expelled from the Party if the fail leaving their poor families with no money or food or something...:|

NEGirl 08-16-2008 05:39 AM

I saw the race last night where Michael Phelps won by a 100th of a second, they kept showing the replays over and over.... It was soooooo close....

adidasss 08-16-2008 08:56 AM

Holy crap, did anyone else see the 100 meters? Bolt absolutely destroyed. New world record despite the fact that he started celebrating 20 meters before the finish line!!

Sparky 08-17-2008 08:53 AM

What happened to your water polo team adidass?

jackhammer 08-17-2008 10:55 AM

For a change the British are doing really well at the Olympics. Third in the medal table. Congrats to Phelps too. Top athlete.

It is just, amazing and inhuman. I never even noticed it until this year. Then again, I was 12 at the time of the last olympics.

ProggyMan 08-17-2008 08:48 PM

You didn't notice female behinds at age 12?

I really wasn't into them, personally. I was more of a fan of the upper chest region, but now after 12 years of hanging with tons of black people, (there was one white girl in my class at school,) I have learned to appreciate the ass.

I mean, I didn't even wack off until I was 14 almost 15.

ProggyMan 08-17-2008 08:55 PM

Damn son, late bloomer. Yeh, almost half my school is black, and half my summers are spent with Jews...Like I said, win.
