Plural? Bad driving or bad luck?

You can still lift, You just have to know what parts of your body are bad and what their limits are. With shot knees I can only leg press 500, given they were not I could probably do close to 850. Its frustrating but its just something you have to go though. The same could be said for bench press, I used to bench 310 and now I struggle like a champ on 225 due to my right side. You need to start light and continue to stay light until it feels well enough to move up. It took me almost 4 months to get my body to the point where I could go up in bench press and leg press.
Lol, you lift 250 kilos and bench press 110!? You must be as big as a house! Crikey...

I've been sticking to cardio stuff just to try and build the tendons back up with some running because lifting hurt... but since my other knee went out just last week I'll be out of commission for a while anyways.

thegoldlaw 12-02-2008 06:53 PM

Really bad luck on driving...

I don't believe 500 and 310 are that impressive. I have a soccer friend who can leg presse 1,100 and a cousin who can bench 450lbs. Also keep in mind when I was benching 310 I had spent almost 2 hours each day mon-fri and this had gone on for over a year.

I feel bad for you having your knee blowing out. I messed up my right wrist in a car accident and took over 3 years for it to come back to near 100%. To this day its still not 100% but i have learned to lift

Yeah my dad took a spill during work and broke his wrist, he hasn't played any "ball" sports since.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who can lift much more but from my perspective it is impressive.

I don't really understand people who want to get really big. All I want is a defined body, not to look like a baloon.

thegoldlaw 12-03-2008 07:35 AM

Neither of them look overly big. Its acturally harder to be strong then it is big. To be big you lift heavy weights a few times. To be strong you lift slighly less weight considerable more times.

I personally like to compare how I'm doing to the people around me. Even if that person weighs 50-60lbs above me. It is this constant comparison that never allows me to be satified with how I'm doing. The lack of complacently prevents any dropoff of intensity while lifting.

I should be at the gym right now but I'm really unmotivated.

Unless you have a goal or a reason for going to the gym its almost impossible to continiously go. For me I love the social aspect of going to the gym. I've never been to the gym where people are angry, everyone seems to be extremely happy and in a good mood.

If you need any advice on routines, what to eat or anything pretaining to going to the gym I'd be happy to help.

adidasss 12-11-2008 08:10 AM

I prefer working out at home. You can do everything with a bench and some weights. Plus, you don't have to sweat in front of other people or wait for a machine...or smell other people...

Janszoon 12-11-2008 04:58 PM

I recently started trying to get my out-of-shape ass back into shape. I've been going to the gym pretty regularly since about mid-October. The plan I'm shooting for is six days a week at the gym: three days of cardio and three days of weights. So far I haven't been able to get to that but I'm probably averaging about four days a week at the gym which isn't too bad. At this point I've lost about 15 pounds, put on a noticeable amount of muscle and gone down two notches on my belt.

I'm impressed, its one thing to talk about doing that but to acturally do that is very impressive. You got me outstaged going 4 days a week and wanting to go 6. I'm lucky to go 2-3 times a week, but when I go I exercise its upwards of 3 hours.

Good luck man, back in the day I really wanted to gain size but it takes alot of food to do so. When I lift i burn between 600-1,000 calories per session. As crazy as it sounds peanut butter and jelly sandwichs have done wonders for me as of late. You have simple and complex carbohydates along with protein. It works as both a pre and post lifting food. Since I've been eating them on an daily basis I've gained 3 lbs in 3 weeks without giving any effort to trying to gain weight.

If only there were a way for me to give you 15 of my pounds. Then we'd both be happy.

Is anyone have a clue about this? I took a bet with my friend that I could eat a 6 patty burger from wendy's

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...895ec2620d.jpg

So anyways I consume that @ 2pm.. and I lift @ 7pm.. this part I am not sure about.

The start of my leg routine with the following on Leg press:

55 for 12
145 for 12
235 for 10
325 for 10
415 for 8
505 for 4

I had been stuck on 505 for the longest time for 4, today I not only did 8, I did 595 for 5 a weight I've never attempted.

Does anyone know what part of that burger is responcible for the huge gain in strength/endurance?

As a vegetarian, this is gross! lol

ProggyMan 12-29-2008 09:42 PM

I do 100 pushups (Sets of 10 every 3 minutes, alternating wide with normal), 40 crunches, 25 squats and 60 leg lifts a night, plus whatever happens in P.E.
Edit: I've been doing this for the better part of the past year. The pic in my avatar was take about two years ago.

I'm american, and I'm male.. this sort of thing is bound to happen.. You'd be surprized how many people have said its "gross" to them. Even the most hardcore meat eaters.

As someone who loves meat, this is gross.

thegoldlaw 12-30-2008 09:30 AM

As crazy as this sounds for getting in shape/toned the above burger is amazing for aiding to that. I eat a fairly clean diet with about 2-3 "dirty" days a month. When I eat these dirty days my body is not used to metabolize it. Because of this it goes above and beyond what is needed to metabolize it and this metabolism rate continues for a while after the food is gone.

MURDER JUNKIE 12-30-2008 10:46 AM

I have a very rigorous workout routine:

4-6 hours of twelve ounce wrist curls roughly 3-4 times a week

multiple reps of tobacco breath exercises for endurance

and roughly 4-6 minutes of sex every 1-2 weeks whether I need it or not

It's not for everybody but I'm hella ripped (for at least the 3-4 days a week)

zflor 01-04-2009 06:28 AM

Anyone have any idea how to stay motivated to workout?

When you work out you need a reason for going. Using the " I want to get in better shape " or " It wouldnt be bad to lose a couple of pounds" never works.

Here are some reasons I've seen people continiously go to the gym for.

#1 They are addicted, going to the gym releases endorphins which makes people happy.

#2 Wanting to impress the opposite sex

#3 Having to train for a sport, work or a long endurance trip such as hiking, canoeing or rock climbing.

#4 Surround yourself with people who are also into fitness. For most this is hard because if they arent already into fitness then it most likely means alot of people around them arent either. For this online has millions of forums with like minded people that will help you.

I find it really helps that you understand what each muscle does and how to give it the right food to grow.

Laces Out Dan! 01-04-2009 01:28 PM

To add to that, once you start going for a while consistantly and then start seeing changes in your body, thats when its super easy to keep going on a regular basis. Its a great feeling to see the benefits you've done to your body.

couldnt have said it any better, that is a point I did miss, thanks

zflor 01-06-2009 09:33 AM

wooo, i'll keep that in mind n put to action too!

littleknowitall 01-11-2009 02:36 PM

I've just started going back to the gym intenseley with a mate whose been doing it for about 5 years now, and everything is startign to sieze up.

jackhammer 01-26-2009 06:06 AM

Just come back from a stint on a friends exercise bike and considering I have'nt been on a bike for a while I done OK. 7 miles in 20 minutes . Combine that with some weight work later on and this should get me back in shape if I carry on with this twice a week. I'm running at 168 lbs and for 5'6" that's a little too much (although I carry it quite well) so if i can drop to about 160 I will be pleased as punch.

chelstd 02-01-2009 12:43 PM

Never seen a thread like this on a forum honestly, but it's awesome!

I try to do an hour of cardio daily, and I want to take up cardio kickboxing or even brazilian jiu jitsu... I lift weights 3 times a week, also do a lot of cycling! Currently trying to reach a goal of curling 40lbs (10 reps). But it seems to go by so slowly! So I might go on a really strict diet and take protein shakes daily.. or something. :p

ADELE 02-01-2009 02:02 PM

I work as a pt so my advice is carry heavy weights in a rucksack with you when you walk.
Also walk up and down the stairs alot and drink lots of water.
this is if you are very unfit as suddenly running will mean over training and sickness.
I reccomend carrying a rucksack with weight in it and just take regular walks until your walks become fast enough to turn into a light run.
Noone is always motivated to do anything in life and exercise is not sudden but throughout your days.
Just keep active and drink lots of water and fluid even though you urinate more as this will help you shed weight.
For those who used to be fit or need to get back simply run round the block time yourself and go slightly better each time and keep it simple and also carry weights when you walk.
good luck.

I've been training for triathlons again so i've been swimming and running. When it gets nicer out I'll start biking to work again. I've moved away from weights all together though. Chin ups, pull ups, crunches and I'm good.

You do 'em competitively or just to say you can? I have a friend who competes in marathons and he trains a full six months in advance.

I need to get back in shape for soccer season. All my buddies play sports year round so I'm gonna look the fool the first few weeks of summer league...

Just hit the gym and juice up. ;)

jackhammer 02-12-2009 12:44 PM

Did another 7 miles on the bike yesterday and shaved a minute and a half off my time. I should get the weights back out but I always find an excuse!

I do them competitivly but I havn't since I was about 20. 6 years on its time to ride again.

I stick to sprints and olympic distances because I don't have the time to train for the halfs/fulls. I could find it but its more effort than its worth.

Shockingly, its not as close to as hard as I thought. The different disciplines don't communicate so after the first half mile I'm running like I didn't just bike 25 miles.

CanwllCorfe 02-12-2009 06:40 PM

I've been doing some simple exercises almost every day, except for when I have really tough days at work. (masonry can get really strenuous)

30 vertical crunches
100 bicycle crunches
40 reverse crunches
40 oblique crunches (20 for each side)
30 - 50 pushups (all depends)
20 bicep curls to halfway, 20 FROM halfway, and 20 full
20 dumbell flies

jackhammer 02-12-2009 07:05 PM

As well as my regular 7 mile bike trips I do a regular exercise that keeps the bicep in exceptional shape. It is the Carlsberg bicep curl. What you do is grab a can of lager and constantly curl it towards your mouth with your mouth open. You not only gain great muscle definition, you can also get wankered if you do it enough :D

Schredds 03-14-2009 03:49 PM

I got big into working out when I was about 19, I am now 25, mostly bodybuilding/powerlifting, I boxed as well for about a year. I am just slowly getting back on track again, I had hernia surgery about 6 months ago and got a little lazy afterwards lol, its ok though my body need a good long break, my joints were getting extremely sore, I was having problems with one of my shoulders and one of my knees. I have tried alot of different supplements, everything under the sun really until I had surgery, My diet was how it was supposed to be to a T, I lived a breathed bodybuilding, I got really strong and in extremely good shape, I think physical fitness is great and should be a part of everyones life, it just makes you feel good n **** all around if anyones has any question rearding dont hesitate to ask I will help streer you in the right direction.

Cheers

PinkCigarette 03-14-2009 04:09 PM

I walk a lot. I drop pounds easily so a day of walking (I'm talking 8 hours of walking) melts away quite a bit but I'm small anyways so it's not like I have to drop 20 pounds.

Of course, winter makes it harder. I don't feel like walking in -50 degree celcius weather.
