Vacations

Going to be gone for the next few days. I'm going camping near one of those lazy river type deals.

Where do you guys like to go on vacation?

simplephysics 08-25-2009 10:35 AM

Being landlocked sucks, so going to the beach for a week or two every year is one of the few things I can look forward too, almost better than Christmas. My family usually goes to Emerald Isle, North Carolina (OBX ftw) and more recently Redington Beach on the gulf coast of Florida.

someonecompletelyrandom 08-25-2009 10:40 AM

I know the feeling. Texas has one beach that I'm close to: Galveston. It's pretty disgusting and feels like a really big swamp instead of an ocean. I've visited the gulf in Florida a couple of times and it's pretty nice. The Atlantic side is far better though :D

simplephysics 08-25-2009 10:45 AM

Oh for sure, the waves on the gulf are lame.. when I'm in the water in NC I get the shit kicked out of me.

FETCHER. 08-25-2009 11:15 AM

what do you mean by vacation, a holiday in your own country, or a holiday to a forign country?

Arya Stark 08-25-2009 11:24 AM

I don't go on vacation much.

But I'm pretty sure I could never hate Disney World.

Either works fine...

I've actually never been out of the U.S... not even to Mexico or Canada.

yeah i was quite intimidated by the huge population at first cos i though i would have no room to move :P
but it was fine it was just as crowded as a normal day walkin through a shopping centre!
nah was mostly Beijing :D was amazing, was one of those places with all the tall buildings but it still has beautiful scenery :D
i visited xian for 2 days aswell to see the terracotta warriers, then back to Beijing :)
best holiday i had been on :)

VoidIfRemoved 09-08-2009 04:34 PM

I've only travelled round Europe so far but I really want to go backpacking in Singapore and Malaysia next Summer.
My favourite place I've ever travelled to is Thessaloniki in Greece, beautiful part of the world and very peaceful. I enjoy any holiday that involves moving about a country seeing a few different cities and hopefully a few outdoor activities - i.e kayaking, abseiling etc.

Astronomer 09-08-2009 06:15 PM

Well right now I'm 'holidaying' in New Zealand! I'm a little bored though... the friend I'm staying with works full-time and I promised I'd wait for my boyfriend to get here before I do any cool sight-seeing.

Although the culture is pretty much exactly the same as Australia, the landscape and climate are completely different. I love the cold weather, I got to see real snow, and almost everybody you meet was a LOTR film extra! It is the most beautiful place I have ever seen, I want to live here.

Any New Zealand MBers want to adopt me?

Amsterdam was a great couple days.
Romania is a good one if you know where to go.
I'd say no to anything in Germany except maybe Berlin. Or if you're into old castles you can travel all along the Rhine and visit some proper relics. That's always a good time.

Up in the mountains. It's actually spring fed so it's nice and cool year 'round. I'm back home now, though.

I'm considering moving there.

I've now taken 2 trips to Las Vegas in back-to-back years, and I think it's a great place to unwind for 3-4 days.

My favorite vacation is a drive up North to stay in a cabin resort in the forest. Been going for about 15+ years now... it's really hard to describe to others how jumping off rocks into water, fishing, ping pong, pool, and drinking at a bar is all that special- but it really is. I will go to this place each year for the rest of my life, if I can.

Finally- my real fascination right now is South America... I'm currently planning my 4 week trip to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup.

In terms of US trips, I've never been west of Minnesota. However, I have traveled a lot out east, I've been to Philly, Burlington, Cleveland, and New Brunswick. Never been to NYC and I probably never will, I just have no interest in going there.

In terms of international travel, I've been to just about every central Mexican state there is, but not by flying. I've been on 18, 16, and several 12 hour car trips in Mexico and have visited Oaxaca and Quintana Roo a few times as well. Technically I've been to Canada once, but I only spent 7 hours in Montreal for my birthday this year. Never been overseas either.

I'm really hoping to go to Spain next year. I've wanted to go there forever and unfortunately so far my only experience in Spain has been a bus ride from the Barcelona airport to my cruise ship. I have a friend that moved to Valencia not too long ago so I have a place to stay.

Spains gorgeous from what I remember, I went to Salou. I was really young though, all I can remember was it was really sunny and pretty. Plus I got an awesome tan :D
Valencia actually looks amazing to go to. I hope you enjoy it! Long flight is it not though?

It's not too bad really. Maybe about six hours or so. Last time I flew there we had to switch planes in Paris which added quite a bit to the trip but I don't think it's too bad of a flight if you fly direct.

Haha. Nice. I don't own a car and I'm turning 33 next year so pretty close I must say. :D

FETCHER. 11-20-2009 06:27 AM

Um, Ibiza clubs closed in September... you do know that right?

Mojo 11-20-2009 06:35 AM

They were just spamming to reach 15 posts. More inventive spam than usual i must admit (in other threads i might add), but spam nonetheless.
