Don't take this the wrong way, but while I'm up for talking AL/NL or even minor league ball, I absolutely loathe fantasy sports of any kind.

Welcome to the ABF thread, tho. :)

Ha! No worries. I don't play anymore, but used to years ago.

Don't you dare become a contender. The Jays have enough to deal with already.

It's going to be another dog fight in the AL East I think. We improved our offense some and the Yankees and Red Sox improved as well, at least on paper. I really like the way the Jays have built that team. I live about 20 minutes away from their Spring Training complex in Dunedin. I'll definitely check them out a few times. Fun team.

I think the biggest dogfight will be the AL West between the Astros, Angels and Rangers, and possibly the A's if they can pull that stick out of their butt. I dunno about the moves Dipoto has made in Seattle, they seem more like payroll management than trying to build a winner, although the Zduriencik approach of overpaying for talent certainly failed but at least he tried, and they resulted in two good acquisitions in Cano and Seager and the signing of the YEAR in Cruz. We'll see but I've been bitterly disappointed in the M's up to this point (Dustin Ackley, anyone?). I'm gonna give Dipoto a chance but there's too much core talent in Seattle for another 90-plus loss season to wash here.

By "here" I guess I mean "there", I've lived so long in Seattle it's hard to think like a Portlander again.

So do most Portlanders root for the Seahawks and Mariners? You guys have Blazers, so probably not a lot of Sonics fans...or are there? What about hockey? Canucks? I've always wondered why Portland doesn't have more pro franchises. It seems like the Northwest could support more. But maybe not.

A lot of Portlanders HATE Seattle, but there's still some Seahawks and to a lesser extent Mariners fans (ya know, winning) in Portland. This town is Blazers and especially the MLS champion Timbers (there ya go, monkeytennis :) ) which fills that tiny but beautiful 22,000 seat venue to the rafters every game with the most Euro-esque fans in any American sports venue.

Also doing very well here is the Portland Winterhawks, absolutely without question the most successful American franchise (3 Chynoweth Cups and 2 Memorial Cups) in the history of the Western Hockey League, which is one of the 3 leagues along with the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, all of which comprise the Canadian Hockey League.

I'm remaining a Silvertips fan. I respect Euro-S. American football but IMO the MLS is not a major league, maybe I'll learn to appreciate it esp. if they get competitive with Europe and S. America.

I've been meaning to get involved in a free league for a while now, but haven't. Tbh, I have no idea how to play. But I know baseball and MLB inside and out.
