I dunno how active this thread is gonna be but I thought it should exist. As the Olympics draw closer I think this thread will become more active. I saw an interesting story that I'll want to discuss once I've had some coffee...

I'll probably be watching. I didn't watch any of the last Olympics, not even the football. The wankfest put me right off it before it had even started.

Looking forward to seeing Bolt and the Brazilian football team to see their young players. Oh and golf is in it this year, Rory McIlroy :cool:

I enjoy the 100 metres. And heptathlon.

I'll probably be keeping track of the Beach Volleyball, and yeah the Golf too. There's been talk of adding Disc Golf to the summer games for years. I wish they'd go ahead and just add it already.

What I appreciate most about the Olympics, and I really just mean Track & Field (and Swimming) here, is that it's sports in it's absolute purest form, running, jumping, swimming, etc...

"ZERO Confidence" in the IOC, none, say Greenberg and Golic regarding the IOC's ability to contain the Zika virus, or even in trying to contain it. Yikes. Thoughts?

I normally find the Olympics as a viewing sport a borefest. Too many sports for both TV and viewer to follow. You really have to be selective to enjoy it imo.

But, yes, as a runner, I'm very excited about the Olympics. It's like the Super Bowl for me. I'll definitely be going to a few watch parties with my other geeky runner friends lol. I like all the other sports, too. Playing in a fantasy league makes it interesting too.

It doesn't make sense to hold the Winter Olympics in Rio imo. Way too hot there.

Rio doesn't deserve to host the Olympics. They should have had their winning bid pulled.

The water is really ****ty.

If it is anything like their World Cup bid then I can see where the criticism comes from. They weren't even ready by the time 2014 kicked off.

I have a laundry list of issues with Rio.

1. like Ki, mentioned earlier. Their water quality is awful.
2. Their head security person quit her job like a month before the events were getting ready to kick off. If that isn't a telling sign I don't know what is.
3. Athletes are getting robbed left and right. I wouldn't even want to be a tourist going to the games. I saw a couple of specials that focused on the cell phone stick up kids that just snatch people's phones and deliver them to a shop to be jailbroken and turned around for a quick profit.
4. They had similar issues building/setting up for the games that Russia did during the winter Olympics to the point that they were doing some radically unethical shit just to get it done in time.
5. Zika virus running rampant.
6. Olympic Village is in poor condition and most of it is inhabitable.
7. On top of the water pollution there is also shitty air quality as well.

I enjoy the swimming event mostly. Don't miss any event.

Good post, knew about the Zika virus, McIlroy pulled out because of that. The rest sounds like a mess. I remember when the World Cup was on they had to spray the pitch green before England played as it wasn't ready and was sandy in places. The stadiums weren't finished either :D

Mens cycling was ****ing incredible. What an amazing finish and by far the hardest course I've ever seen

I watched most of it but had to leave right before the finish.

I saw the two wipeouts that happened because of how hard that course is.
