I kept saying Gareth Barry should never pull on an England shirt again after the Germany game, and I think I was proved right seeing as he played like shit and all. Rooney looked totally uninterested, Gerrard was stifled and pushed far too deep, and Capello got all the substitutions totally wrong (like how he still thinks Wright-Phillips is worthy of the shirt and all). Only Adam Johnson looked the business tonight, and Ash Young after he settled into his game a bit. Everyone else on the pitch lacked any sort of ideas and motivation. I just hope the lads don't hide behind that penalty decision that went against them in the press.

Thats why I would keep Gerrard, Terry and Lampard. At least for now. It would be nice to see some replacements come through though and be ready come the next World Cup or just after it. I know Gerrard and Lampard dont play well together but both should be in the squad, or play a 5 man midfield.

Rooney looked completely deflated tonight. He just doesn't look as though he believes. He needs a few goals behind him for sure. I don't think there were any poor stand-out performances tonight, just the team as a whole looked poor. I don't even think Adam Johnson had a good game. He had a passable game and at times took on defenders which is what he should be doing but I can't say he had a GOOD game. His service was pretty shocking. The only flashes of creativity I saw tonight were from Gerrard, and even he spent the majority of the game pushed back into the midfield instead of in the hole. There was space there all night when we were bringing the ball forward.

We have euro 2012 to think about first...

Maybe Lampard to be in the squad, but to not play in the starting 11.
It's time to rebuild and playing a 33 year old Kevin Davies isn't contributing towards that.

No, I don't think they do. However, even though I don't understand a lot of the decisions he made during the World Cup I am glad that we've stuck with him. He has a proven track record, we don't often stick with managers and give them time after a poor tournament like that and really, who else are we gonna get?

I think the likes of Gerrard, Lamps and as you say, Cole are too good to consider dropping anytime soon just to allow younger players to come through but I hope we don't have the same team in four years time.

We do need a younger squad and I think that should be his main priority, to develop the younger players who may have a couple of World Cups ahead of them. I just don't think that to achieve this, he should just wake up tomorrow and relieve every Engligh player over the age of 30 of their duties. Surely he can still build a team around a few of these players while taking every opportunity to develop the youngsters instead of leaving us with a team that has no hope in hell of beating anybody anyway, because we left the likes of Gerrard at home?

Then we're doomed to repeat history.
A radical approach wouldn't do English football any harm.
On the contrary, a team that grows together over the next 3 to 4 years would prove quite a force in the next World Cup.
A squad of players that play together with the World Cup in mind would prove to be a serious contender in my opinion.
It's hardly a new idea and it's been done before many times at all levels. And not just in football either.
You don't need stars to have a winning team. All you need are a group of players and a strategy. It's the way the team plays as a team that is most important.

Fabio Capello-Managed an AC Milan team considered to be the strongest of the 1990's, and has also won silverware at every team he has ever managed bar England.

Oddly enough, given all three have proven themselves to be excellent managers, it may be the players that are the problem.

For all ofhis accolades, he really did make some very questionable decisions during the world cup and i think he does seem to want to play the old fashioned English way rather than arguably thebest way for the squad he has, something i had hoped he wouldn't do.

However, as i said i'm glad he's still around. The fans and the media always apply the pressure on the manager after a poor major tournament, put all of our failings on his head and he is fired and replaced by someone no better qualified to suceed.

Maybe Fabio can take all of the criticism like a man and actually learn from the mistakes?
