The English Football Thread
Well it`s the new season on Saturday & I thought it`s deserving of a thread in here as i`m sure there must be a least a couple of football fans in here.Anyway as there`s not much happening right now i`d just like to say 2 things.
1. All you Americans will have to make do with it being called Football , I would die sooner than use the term 'soccer'. 2. Liverpool paid £7 million for Peter Crouch ?    All I can say is there must be a hell of a lot of sides splitting in Southampton right now. |

EDIT: Birmingham to arse around and finish comfortably in mid-table, as usual. David Dunn to go to the world cup if he's not injured. But he will be. |

For the benefit of Americans...Crouch is the tall one! |
|
OK predictions....
1st Chelsea 2nd Man Utd 3rd Arsenal 4th Liverpool Uefa cup places - Bolton , Boro , Spurs Relegation Fulham , West Brom , Wigan |
Chelsea- as much as this pains me, i cant see them finishing anywhere but 1st. their resources and strengh in depth is just silly. duff injured? oh ****- lets bring in wright-phillips.
arsenal- will finish second for me. despite losing vieria we have the best crop of youngsters in the league who are all but ready to be integral now. plus i generally think we're betteerrrrrrrr than united. liverpool- third, they've got a lot of players over the summer and its given them a depth to match the top 3. maybe not their in the quality yet but i think they can take united. reina is a quality 'keeper. United- PAH |

well if you wanna talk football ( not limited to the premiership ) Croatia is playing Brasil in two weeks in a friendly, that will be very embaressing.....
|
Arsenal's season depends on how much protection their diving little toerags get from referees. If they get wise to it, they're shagged. If they have Fabregas attempting to replace Vieira, they're shagged.
Hopefully they'll be shagged, arrogant tossers. |

World Cup semi-finalists in 98. And a bit of research shows me Croatia are top of their qualifying group. Do you support a club side adidasss? |

i do support a ( croatian ) club, the situation in Croatia is very much like in Scotland, you have two big clubs who battle it out every year, there's Dinamo, who is supported by mainland croatians, and Hajduk ( it's pronounced HA-Y-DOOK ) is supported by the people on the coastline ( i support Hajduk as you might imagine ) as far as foreign clubs i quite like Barcelona ( i despise Real Madrid just like i despise Dinamo, both clubs are situated in the capital and have much bigger funds ), and the dreaded Chelsea, i don't much like the italian league and their way of playing football, i prefer the spanish and english style, the french league sucks balls... |

this ones for you adidasss ......click on it for full version. |
hahaha....awsome!!!
|
hasnt croatia got zagreb (yes you shits before you state the obvious im well aware zagreb is the croation capital) aswell? arent they supposed to be a prestigious, successful croation football team?
|
zagreb is our capital and it has several football clubs, Dinamo, Zagreb and Inter, Dinamo is by far the biggest one and the most financially backed.....i wouldn't call it prestigeous and succesfull, maybe in croatia but they never did anything outside....Hajduk made it to the 1/4 finals of the champions league some 10 years ago, that's the biggest succes of a croatian club....
|
i meant zagreb. not inter- not dinamo- just zagreb.
|
no zagreb is a shitty club, they won the championship some 2 years ago but other then that....like i said there are only two clubs that can fill up a stadium with 40 thousand seats....well, not even they, the quality of football here is really awfull, still i'm pretty attached to Hajduk so i hate it when they lose to Dinamo...

18? Who cares when Ivan Campo's handing him his ass on a plate again this season? Or maybe Arsenal will fold in the face of furious Phil Neville once more, in his new home. And what was the score the last time Arsenal played Birmingham City? Not great considering Reyes cost Arsenal pretty much the same as our entire squad, is it? |
Fabregas looks promising for the future but he`s hardly in the mould of a Viera, Keane or Gerrard , players that can single handedly grab hold of games by the scruff of their necks & make something happen.
So then Stu , Pires of to Galatasaray then? ;) |
soccer is fun in all i like manchester united
|
British football (soccer) is awesome, American football sucks ass... and yes I do live in America.

Too right, fat Frank has been bloody awesome for the past two years.
Knocking on the door of 150 Premiership games in a row, that's some going. |
I see Mourinho has been shooting his mouth off saying Micheal Owen wouldn`t even get in the Chelsea first team.
Oh yeah because Chelsea have a great bunch of strikers. A £24 million flop ,an Argentine who couldn`t wait to get out & is only playing for them because he couldn`t find another team and a Serbian non entity. And the less said about the cokehead the better. In fact the only decent striker Chelsea have is Eidur Gudjohnsen , and no way is he as good as Owen. |
who's the serbian in chelsea? ( all i can think of is mateja kezman but he's slovenian )
|
Well I was talking about Kezman
It says he`s Serbian on their official website |
Quote:
And he'd said he would score more than Ruud Van Nistelrooy in the Premiership as well. |
So...Chelsea turn over the Arse', hoped that would'nt happen...you know just to make things a bit more interesting...ah well, early days.
Kleberson to Besiktas for less than 2Million...and United need the money!!!! And Newcastle make a bid for Owen. Looks like Ferguson isn't interested, has Owen had his day in the big time? |
I can't understand it. Scored goals all through his career, still young, and nobody wants to buy him. Surely he won't want to be Alan Shearer's bitch as is the requirement for any striker at Newcastle?
Might be a godsend for England for him to stay at Madrid, play not so much but be fit and fresh and ready to prove a point come World cup time. |
If he has any sense he wont go to Newcastle. Everybody seems to hate Souness, even his own players.
Personally I'd love to see him at Old Trafford, even if he is a bin dipping scouser and I agree he does need to stay fit, especially with that recurrent hamstring injury. Even then he' still worth around 15 goals a season. |
I think it`s the price putting people off Owen.
Madrid get him for £8 million , he spends most of the season on the subs bench & now he`s worth twice that? I don`t think Newcastle will get him , I think Man Utd will see what Newcastle are offering (£11 million i hear) and improve on that so they don`t have to spend the £16 million Madrid are asking. |
