Sunderland were painful to watch this afternoon. Chimbonda did next to no defending for a full back, Bardsley was nearly as bad on the other side, Whitehead has been a consistently weak link for way too long now. Worst performance since Everton stuffed us 7-1 last season.

jackhammer 11-30-2008 12:06 PM

Villa ballsed up as well. Carew needs to be back in the side to add another dimension. If we can't beat fulham then we don't deserve to finish in the top 4.

Bulldog 11-30-2008 01:55 PM

As for Wigan, we should've ballsed-up but we scraped past that less-than-mediocre bunch at West Brom. Hardly ideal, but it's good to see us climbing further from the bottom three (I guess).

jackhammer 11-30-2008 02:04 PM

Steve Bruce is a good manager and i think you will be safe enough.

I hope so. He's done a fantastic job since we axed that shower of ****e Chris Hutchings. I'm neither overly optimistic or pessimistic of our chances this season though - just another boring, lower mid-table scrap really.

MURDER JUNKIE 11-30-2008 04:03 PM

I couldn't be more jazzed that we beat those blue cunts today, we still need to fire Dijouru though.

How many times has this happened? lol I blame Hicks and Gillet.

See Santa Cruz's missus was held up at knife point in their house too.

Villa have had a strange season. Amazing one week and very poor the next. I guess its been that way for some way time now though. Good chance in Europe though maybe? They are a somewhat a big game team.

It's damn annoying because three matches we should have won (Newcastle, Fulham and Middlesbrough) would have put us right in the mix. A season too early for us. We need a regular goalscorer. Rumours are that we have a few quid in January to spend on a striker.

Agbonlahor is a fantastic striker with a load of pace and a load of potential considering he's still young but yes you have a point. Hes far from prolific especially when your team is aiming as high as Villa are. It could be a lot worse for Villa right now considering Liverpool and Arsenal's form of late.

Mojo 12-04-2008 08:33 AM

Im still trying to digest the news about Roy Keane resigning today and I must say I have very mixed feelings about the whole thing. Firstly I do not wish to appear ungrateful, Roy Keane has been a huge success and getting Sunderland promoted and surviving that initial hurdle of retaining Premiership status throughout the first season up is something that most Sunderland fans will never forget. We've fallen at that hurdle enough now to know what a big deal that was. It could be argued that he bought that success but he used the influence he had to sell the club to players that may not have thought the move up north to be very appealing at all and attract some very decent players to the club. However even with all the speculation over the last few weeks and some of the comments he has made to suggest he is unhappy at the club, questoning whether he was the right man for the job I still find myself surprised that he has gone as I thought he would at least see out the season.

If he believes he has taken the club as far as he can and really does believe that he isnt the right man for the job then dropping into the bottom 3 on the back of a hopeless performance, it could be argued, was the perfect time to leave so we have time to rebuild and ensure we stay up but I think the majority of the fans would have wanted him to stay (I know I did) and the club supposely did everything they could to convince him to stay and I think theres a real posibility that at a time where we need some real leadership he has turned his back and potentially dropped us right in it. Two days before a trip to Old Trafford also!

United 1 Sunderland 0.

72% possession in favour of United as opposed to 28% for Sunderland.
I don't think I've ever seen such a blatant display of non football from a team visiting Old Trafford in my life!
No wonder Keano resigned. If I was a fan of Sunderland Football Club I'd sue under the trade description act.
Fuckin' disgraceful!

I've got to disagree. I was crossing my fingers for a point and would have been over the moon if we got one.

A point!?
I'd have been "over the moon" with a shot at goal if I was you.

How can you be happy with a point when your team plays what amounts to non football?
I'd rather lose 5-0 and be entertained rather than suffer my team week in, week out, playing like that.

Yes, a point. A point that we were 3 minutes away from getting. For a club with injuries, 5 defeats in the last 6, in the bottom 3 and without a manager I would have been happy to see us simply stop the bleeding and keep a clean sheet, especially with Fulop in goal as Gordon's out. After Bolton the week before then realistically we could have been looking at an absolute hammering.

right-track 12-07-2008 08:00 AM

I'll let you in on a secret.
The teams that pick up points against United are the ones that try and take the game to us.
City didn't take 6 points of us last season for playing 10 men behind the ball for 90 minutes and it's no surprise they got nothing for attempting it last week.
A 10 man defence against United is suicide.

Im not arguing that that is generally the case and of course no one wants to see their team line up 4-5-1 and put 9 or 10 behind the ball for 90 minutes but my point is that i think you will find a lot of Sunderland fans who were happy with that yesterday.

Last week we were appaling, we looked half decent going forward at times but put in possibly the worst defensive performance of any club so far this season. Chimbonda and Bardsley did next to no defending and often found themselves 10 yards behind play when Bolton brought the ball forward leaving us with 2 at the back and when one of those 2 puts in a performance like Danny Collins did THAT is suicide. We paid for it too, if Bolton can put 4 past us then United should be able to put 5 or 6 past us if not more if we dont tighten up.

I think that based on our form as of late and the fact we have a manager 3 days into his job that lining up so defensively, holding a line, digging our heels in and playing for a point at Old Trafford and a clean sheet which we really need was arguably the way to go. Don't get me wrong, there was only one team that was ever going to come away with 3 points yesterday and United did just that so there can be no arguments really but i thought we defended well, Fulop had a great game in goal and really I struggle to think of a clear one on one chance on goal that United had.

City played for those 6 points and their aim is european football at the least, ours is staying up.

I saw Arsenal vs Wigan the other day on cable and that rekindled my interest in the Premier League which I used to follow as a kid.

But of course shitty NZ tv doesn't televise it. On the plus side, I'll have cable for a couple of days a week when I'm staying at a motel so I can watch it there.

Just giving you the gears, watching my Arsenal lately has broken my heart.

Using this seasons formula for the next few weeks we will win against Pool and Villa then lose to Portsmouth.

I'm eagerly anticipating the January transfer window

jackhammer 12-14-2008 12:45 PM

If villa could be that little more consitsent then we would really be pushing that top three. In terms of entertainment I think villa have been one of the most attractive teams to watch this season.

right-track 12-14-2008 01:29 PM

With Arsenal losing and the top 3 all drawing, it's been a great weekend for the Villa.
Improve on your away form and you're in with a shout.

The recent results of the top 4 for the past few weeks have been very kind to the likes of Villa, Everton and Hull. For the neutrals this season must be quite exciting to watch!

On a day that United become official Champions of the World (that means THE WORLD and not your own back yard my confused American cousins) and the self proclaimed richest club in the world, City, get beat by bottom of the league West Brom...could it get any better? :D

It's a long road to the very top Lee...first you have to be Champions of England...then the small matter of the European Champions League (winners of course) has to be taken care of ...then you get to play in the Club World Cup against the champions from each continent on earth...then reach the final of that competition. In this case against the reigning South American champions...you know South America Lee? The one with all the Brazilians and Argentinian teams etc. and then have a player sent off very early in the first half...and still win with 10 MEN!!!

right-track 12-21-2008 11:53 AM

Oh calm down and be humble. oh I forgot. they don't do humility at old trafford :D and no i'm not Jealous. your whole infrasructure is miles ahead of many teams and I KNOW we cannot compete but Villa are building something. trust me. Big times ahead at villa. and of course..congratulations. now let me enjoy our lofty position for 5 days please!
