But that's the point, what he feels about Evra is effectively moot. It is not as important as the spirit of the game. Maybe you don't respect them as a footballer, but you should damn well respect them as an opponent. That's what the handshake is about. It's about playing fair on the field, regardless of how much or little respect you have for the other side.

Again, there's no need for it.

... So you would just throw away one of the oldest examples of chivalry and good sport left in the world?

Yes. I prefer the Hakka.

Haka are performed for various reasons: for amusement, as a hearty welcome to distinguished guests, or to acknowledge great achievements or occasions (McLean 1996:46–47).
You were saying?

Nobody cares about traditions eh? Ignorance at its finest. Which "nobody" is this? I'm proud of my history, I'm proud of my native language, even if only 10% of the population can speak it. I'd be willing to bet that if you asked any national player of any sport that they'd be pretty damn proud to play for their country. I bet if you asked any of the All Blacks about the Haka they'd be proud of their culture and the Pacific Island traditions that gave them such a famous expression.

The Haka is awesome because of what it means, what it represents, and because of the traditions that surround it. Can you imagine how stupid Torres would look doing a Haka?

The thought of Torres doing the Haka makes it all worthwhile.

People do care about traditions, society is built upon them and sport has its own traditions as well.

I am obviously being annoying on purpose, but I am pretty sure fans aren't concerned about the history and traditions, its surely more about intimidation in their eyes.

Much more suitable than shaking hands.
