FIFA President Sepp Blatter wants European leagues to switch to playing through the summer.

Blatter is proposing that the bulk of football is played from February to November, with international qualifying games to be played in the winter.

"I've just proposed to the clubs: play through the summer," Blatter told the German Kicker magazine.

"This would leave enough time for players to recover and there could be blocks of three weeks of national teams' qualifying games in winter.

"This idea is supported by big European clubs."

Great idea

Unless of course your international qualiyfing group has teams like Sweden , Norway & Russia in them.

UEFA must be furious. UEFA are bending over backwards to keep the Champions League format as it is.

There was a theory knocking around Manchester, when Glazier took over.
It was that eventually all the top European clubs would break away from the domestic leagues and form their own European League.
Controlling their own TV rights on a pay per view.

United have around an estimated 1 billion fans worldwide.

Not unachievable and it would make perfect sense for a man like Glazier, to invest in United for the long term, despite the massive debts at the moment.

Makes me wonder how this could effect things.

I think that`ll be career suicide.

People keep on about a european league but when it comes down to it I don`t think it`ll ever happen.

Attendences will plummit , can you really see 10,000 plus fans travelling to Spain one week , Germany another week , Sweden another week for a whole season.Sure the TV audience will be there but it won`t hide the lifeless half empty stadiums

Also , I don`t know about you but I would rather see games like Man Utd vs Man City , or Man Utd v Blackburn or Newcastle or West Ham , games with tradition & history rather than watch games against teams like Werder Breman or Locomotive Moscow.

Personally the reason I enjoy watching the champions league is because you don`t get match ups like Man Utd vs Real Madrid or Liverpool V Barcelona that often so when they do they`re an event.

I think it`s a horrible horrible idea that`ll kill off all whats good about football.

But on the other hand , Celtic & Rangers in the Premier League gets a thumbs up from me

This Galatasary v Liverpool game is good, 3 goals in 5 minutes & Galatasary use Erasure`s 'I Love To Hate You' as their goal music over the tannoy

I think Celtic would do well, possibly get in the top 5 or 6. But Rangers would get relegated, they're a shambles right now.

David Beckham will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season and join side Los Angeles Galaxy on a £128million (250 million US dollars) five-year deal.

The former England captain will leave Real in June and begin his new career in Major League Soccer in August.

Beckham said in a statement: "This week, Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract by a further two seasons.

"After discussing several options with my family and advisers to either stay here at Madrid or join other major British and European clubs, I have decided to join the Los Angeles Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year.

"I would like to thank the supporters and people of Madrid who have made my family and I feel so welcome in my time here, making this an extremely difficult decision to make.

"I have enjoyed my time in Spain enormously and I am extremely grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to play for such a great team and their amazing fans.

"I am proud to have played for two of the biggest clubs in football and I look forward to the new challenge of growing the world's most popular game in a country that is as passionate about its sport as my own.

"For the rest of this season I will continue to give 100% to my coach, team mates and fans as I believe Fabio Capello will bring this club and its supporters the success they truly deserve."

£128 million for playing in some Mickey Mouse league?
