Got my first open headphones (bass, volume, quote, cheap)

When I came home from school today I was really excited to see that my Audio Technica ath-ad700's arrived from amazon. First impression - they are ****ing HUGE! I was surprised that they actually fit my small head. I got these to sort of replace my Sennheiser Hd280's because I wanted something lighter and something comfortable enough to wear glasses and the 'phones at the same time, and these fit the bill.

I also wanted open headphones so I can hear other people while I have them on, the Sennheisers totally block everything out (which is good at times). Sound quality is great, but they aren't broken in yet, so I can only expect them to sound better later on. I read that they were lacking in bass, but from what I hear, I really wouldn't want any more bass anyway. Too bad they make my mp3's sound like crap, even more so than the Hd280's.

Definitely recommended for someone interested in open headphones for under $100.

Open headphones FTW. Once you go Grado you never go back btw. I think they're higher end that the ones you listed, without checking, but SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it.

just want to note that sennheiser is not a one trick pony either. their higher end open ear headphones are great, i've put my hd515s through serious torture and they still sound and feel just as good as the first day i got them.

what does open ear mean? is it like a monitor or something can you hear what your singing and whats coming through the output what does this mean ??

the headphones aren't sealed - the backs of the earpieces allow air through, but also allow outside sound in and some of the sound coming from the drivers out.

you also don't get a headache with extensive use of open ear headphones since the sound waves aren't compacted and redirected solely into your ear.

if you're listening at high volumes people around you will be able to hear it pretty clearly.

Of course, the main advantage is of course that they SOUND fantastic compared to mosto ther types of headphone. A reasonably cheap pair of open air headphones will usually beat the crao out of a pair of closed headphones of the same price.
