New to recording

Hey guys,
I'm looking for christmas to get myself a budget recording setup for my piano. I have no knowladge about recording equiptment atoll so need recommendations as the parents are nagging me to choose the equiptment i want asap. Ive decided to get the recording equiptment to start building my folio and get a hopefully get a bit of money in so im looking for a nice finishing sound.
We are looking for under £400. My piano is a full upright and sits in a large extension room to the house.

Im not sure what other information i need to provide so please feel free to ask

100 bucks. Great one to start off with.
It's got two decent microphones, works like a charm.

Not that anything is wrong with what sk mentioned, but you could spend that money on a usb mic that would be much better. Instead of having all those features they would be on the computer instead.

Take a look at Blue mics. Mine is the Yeti and has 4 different kinds of mics for different recording styles/instruments and they all sound incredible.

edit: If you have an audio input for a mic already then just get a regular mic not usb.

The idea of the H1 is obviously to take it with you. You can just hang it above your piano but you can also put it on a tripod and take it with you to a concert. It's quite convenient. Also, the H1 is like a game console. You don't have to worry whether your computer will manage, it'll just do whatever you want. USB mics are a very nice idea, but you know the kind of folks with acer or packard bell computers. They don't really know what they're doing, their hardware is ****e and you end up having recordings with all sorts of errors in it.
A computer leaves a lot more space for human error

Also very useable for personal home recordings .

Whahaha, I definitely wasn't .
I once ran into a open reel tape with home made porn sounds.

Christmas is over I know, but I've been working with the ZOOM H4n for over a year now and it's great. You can use the onboard stereo mics, and if you ever want to, there are 2 inputs, XLR and 1/4" that you can use with different microphones. Haven't had a problem with it so far.

The Zoom H1 is very nice (I got one myself) and I think the latest version can be set up as a USB microphone.

I don't need that because they all got a line out which you can plug into your computer, either to the line-in or microphone. I got a power adapter thing so that I don't need batteries and with the tripod .. It basically works as a very good PC mic that I can take with me to record stuff if I want.

So, I second Sk's suggestion!
