Default Mid-range PC speakers?

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, so apologies in advance if it's not

I'm after some decent mid-range computer speakers. Will these - ramblax.co.uk/p~p-92068184~Logitech-Z523-2-Speakers.aspx]Logitech Z523 2 Speakers - do the trick, do you think?

Thanks in advance!

Logitech is pretty much a safe choice no matter. If a blasting volume isn't necessary I would also take a look at JBL. Very nice and balanced sounding speakers, which also looks rather nice(I think)

As one of the forums resident audiophiles I'd like to laugh pompously at the previous statement.

I would never buy computer speakers, it is a waste. They are underpowered and over priced. Get a nice pair of used stereo speakers for almost that same price.

Of course it isn't a waste. You shouldn't go overboard price wise but a lot of music is heard for the first time on the PC and it should be something half decent.

I usually go for Creative and I'm on my second pair in five years. Nothing OTT but the pair I have don't need an added subwoofer and have a decent rich sound. Only paid £40 for them and they do the job as an entry set of speakers.

It is a waste when used you could buy a much better setup. One that actually includes bass and mids. And sometimes an improvement in sound quality can make you appreciate something much more.

If it's your general set up then you should pay a little more but my PC listening is generally first listens and my main set up at home is obviously much better and is my primary listening source. If your PC is your main listening hub then maybe but it's not mine so although I certainly need something half decent, I would much rather spend the money on my main set up. My Creative have a very decent sound for the price. I also have a spare pair of logitech but they are atrocious.
