He's a funk bassist, slapping is a main part of his technique, though thats not to say he can't do without, Californication has some great melodic bass playing with very little slapping.

I've always loved Squire, then again, who doesn't?

Anyway, I had a bass, but I found it too boring and took up guitar, damn I want the bass back

I suck at bass, but it's fun

I like (for the sole purpose that most of these guys I can try to play some of their stuff and not get confused)

Mike Drint (Dookie album and earlier)
Matt Freeman

oh and did i add that i totally suck at playing bass? I look at it in more of a guitarist mindset

Seriously they are, I've been playing guitar for over 5 years, I never got that good, one day I just said, "to hell with this, I'm getting a bass".
