I joined my first band as bassist,,,,2 days after buying my first bass...

they said I sucked bigtime.....what saved me is they heard me play keyboards.

silly question....every bassist is different....Jaco did the same as me.

you may suck on bass forever....

then again, you might rock.

Well, I believe the standard for what is called a "Master Musician" is to have played 10,000 hours of music in their life. So at 30 minutes every single day (which is admittedly more than most), you should be there in just over 54 years. But don't despair. It's just a silly number and a relative standard.

You'll be ready when you're ready. I know that sounds like a loaded statement, but if you really want to join a band, or start your own, you'll do it.

It also depends on what music you're trying to play. ???

They do... and occasionally they are resurrected.

Our new bassist, well in the past two months new, has a Peavy from the mid 90s. It is called a "something" II...... I cannot remember the name of it. Anyways it sounds great.

Also his uncle gave him his old bass. Which is a beaut.

It's a 1976 ea-260 Epihpone

The band Dead Meadow is what got me into bass in the first place. As soon as I have 15 posts I will gladly post some mindblowing basslines by them!

Started on bass 40 years ago. I should be better than I am!

Right now, I'm playing a Fender that's a cross between a P and J. It has a J neck and one P and one J pickup.

Favorite bass players-
Chuck Rainey
John Paul Jones
Pino Palladino
John Entwhistle
Roscoe Beck
Anthony Jackson
Aston 'Family Man' Barrett
James Jamerson
Berry Oakley
Tal Wilkenfield

Tablas are harder to master than bass or guitar put together, So what? As long as someone finds their voice on an instrument, who cares how hard it is to play?
