I personally have a Dean Zone XM, it's cheap and really pretty nice. Although, it does tend to buzz on the A.

Anyone know any good online guides for building a bass? It's come to my attention I'll never be able to afford to pay overwater to build me a custom so I figured I might try and have a crack at it in the next year or so.

As little as possible on a test build before anything. But I don't want one of these build a bass kits, I'd still have to learn how to build one from scratch if i wanted to build another one after.

Just search google. I kinda used a buncha sources working on mine. Its really trial and error. The best way is to use a scrap piece and practice the neck pocket and pickup holes so that when its time to actually do them you will be an ace. Dont be afraid to ask questions here or in your local shops where the luthiers know there stuff.

Ill try to find a good site in the meantime.

I think the way our hands are designed affects what instrument would suit us best. With guitar and bass I play both but I have long strong fingers but that are not naturally flat when barring a chord on a guitar, so it takes me more effort to push down harder to bar a chord, as for bass guitar I find it more natural to play finger style, tapping, and slapping.

Also bass players with a 'hitch hikers' thumb are better at double thumbing because they can get more 'purchase' on the upward thumb pluck.

Food for thought!
