Default banjos, any help?

So i told my mom last night i wanted a banjo for christmas (i know its kinda early but she likes knowing what i want way ahead of time) and she just kind of laughed at me and said she thinks its wierd i want to play one. I think theyre awesome so im probably just gonna buy one myself. does anyone have any suggestions as to which one i should get? i can probably spend up to $350, maybe a little more. ive looked around and done some research but just seeing what you guys think. thanks

Banjo is definitely challenging and not as rewarding as other instruments. If you're really set look at some online guitar places and see what they have, you can spend 200 or less and get something playable. I wouldn't spring for anything fancy just yet. I would I'm assuming you're looking at a 5-string and not a tenor?

One of my nannies I had when I was little taught me how to play the banjo. It is the most ugly sounding and most useless instruments I know how to play. Srsly, you might as well ask for a harmonica and save a few bucks.

banjo.com is a good bet

Probably go with whichever Cripple Creek model fits your price. Also, it depends if you're planning on a resonator model or an open back. Gold Tone has some nice beginner models.
