Default What makes you put life into an instrument?

I believe this is the best forum to do this thread.

What event or song (or whatever it was) made you want to play what you play?

The Zeppelin song "Friends" made me want to play guitar. There was just something about that opening strum that hooked me.

catching this video (way back in the fall of grade 9 - 1990)

basically that bassline blew my mind and the guitar slapped it back together in a whole new way. it was like getting kicked in the head in the best way possible.

There wasn't really just one song or musician that got me into guitar. I really just picked it up on a whim.

I picked up the bass because I thought it was the easiest instrument to learn and I wanted to impress my ex gf.

When I heard Immigrant Song for the first time I knew that I had to play drums.

For me, hearing Mark Knopfler records made me realise the guitar has a lyrical voice as well as being a vehicle for driving rhythm. Less is more.

But in my youth i just thought the guitar was cool, how do they move their fingers so fast?! lol

hmmm....

so far it's an even split between lightning bolt moments and just kind of deciding to play hehe.

i work with another musician and this thread got me curious. turns out he started playing bass because his buddies wanted to start a band and someone had to fill the spot.

is there a way to add a poll?

If the maker of the thread wants a poll he can ask a moderator to help him with it.

Pretty wild that my inspirational song comes right after yours on Zep III

I'm not interested in polls, sorry, poll-seekers

I was generically influenced to play guitar by listening to Nirvana.

Which is amusing, considering I hardly listen to them nowadays and have progressed vastly beyond Kurt Cobain as a guitarist.
