Here's something to get you started - a large chord chart. There might be something better out there, but this was easy to find and should be easy to understand.

The first chords you should learn are these : E, A, D, C and G. Also learn the minors Em, Am and Dm.

When you got those, you can start practicing on moving up the neck. You should learn F first. Then F#m, B, Bm, Bb, C#m, Gm and so on. When you have these, chords will get easy and you can play around and figure stuff out on your own. For learning how to play them, I would play songs that use them. On the net, it's easy to find chords to popular songs. Just use those for practice .. You could even listen to the songs if you have them and try to strum along.

Fingerplay and stuff is perhaps a little less straightforward. Years back, I practiced playing songs that had simple fingerplay and just figured them out, for example songs like Street Spirit by Radiohead.

You can learn anything on your own.

Yep - start simple. Set yourself simple tasks and be proud of yourself when you achieve them.

I think it would be pretty hard without a decent tutorial book, but with youtube and tabs these days, you should pick up enough to keep progressing.

Yes, that is really possible. I did a self study in guitar playing. You just need some friends who can teach you some techniques. But you can learn the instrument even when you're just home. You can also explore the instrument on your own. It's fun!

I learned guitar at my own pace. Maybe it's just me but i don't like to be "taught" things like that. It takes out the happiness i get when i succeed, It makes me feel liek i did'nt do it ALL myself.

I've been playing for a few years now, so if you have any questions regarding anything really, from chords, to lead playing, to improvisation, to theory, to, well anything, just ask. I teach lessons and I'd love to help someone else.

Learn chords online.
Then memorize the notes on the guitar.
Then buy a book from a music store and learn simple songs with chords and picked melodies.
If you practice for one or two hours a few days per week you should pick the guitar up quickly.
