Yea I generally have to use my ears to decide on cymbals. No combination of dimensions and metallic composition is going to override my ears in a decision like that.

I have found a general trend in my cymbal preferences though... the older, the better (up to a point).
So I tend to seek out second-hand cymbals. They generally have more character and more refined, smooth frequencies.


In any case, you need to hear it to decide on it. And if your a drummer, you could be in the middle of a room full of a million cymbals and it won't be boring. So go out and give it a go.
