after my last post in this thread, i borrowed my brother's guitar and learned to play by ear. today, i got a guitar of my own. it sounds better than the secondhand my brother has( CAUSE I RETURNED TO HIM!!!), and it stays in tune. best of all, it is made in a vintage style!!!!! i won't go into detail, but it's made by Blueridge.

You have true talent if you learned to play be ear after you're first time picking the guitar up. Congrats on the new guitar.

Apparently I am progressing very quickly according to some youtube guy "Thomas Grillo" or something for a beginner. It takes a little bit to get used to but it is so much fun to play and I guess for some people it is very intuitive. Playing the thing itself requires quite a bit of concentration and requires you almost to hum in your head as you play, but it is quite satisfying when you jump a few octaves back and forth perfectly, or the days where you can simply have things in your head and play right them on your first try.
Where did you get your theremin? it seems like such a cool instrument and i might want to try to pick it up. are they expensive?

you can buy them online, don't get a DIY kit unless you've got experience in electronics and assembling circuit boards. not that pricey if i remember right.

Default I play a few..

Guitar, piano, piano accordian is fun with all the buttons arranged in the circle of 5ths, organ (as in Church), violin.

I even tried the clarinet, but have not quite mastered the change in registers (squeaking) - my dog at the time used to run off in fear!

I have a cello I want to teach myself too.

Yes I have a 'regular music room' packed to the rafters with instrument stands, music stands and the instruments themselves!!

I wish I could play really good rhythm (drums/bongos etc) - bought some bongos but really enjoy listening to a good operator.

uhhh no... melodicas are generally quite cheap as far as instruments go. normally well under $100 (like $30-$50 for average 'fun' models).

unless you're shooting for highest end stage quality made from exotic wood, even then you're still looking at the same price range as a beginner electric guitar setup ($350ish) - and that's for a fancy 50th anniversary model. the normal professional quality melodicas run between $100-$200.
