I play the piano at a high beginner/low intermediate level, but I really suck at the guitar. As for the instruments that I want to learn play they are the following:

Piano, Tuba, Timpani, Glockenspiel, Oboe, English Horn, Flute, Piccolo, Bassoon, Contrabassoon, Electric Guitar, Guitar, Cello

I wish I would have enough time time to master them.

Takes a lot of time to master the flute, that's for sure.

ESPOMAN 02-02-2014 12:04 PM

Guitar for around 3 years.

guitarboy 02-02-2014 01:27 PM

I don't play any instrument and never have as my memory is too unreliable. Wait a moment, just saw my username, I have played guitar for more than 30 years.

Isbjørn 02-02-2014 02:45 PM

Theoretically, I play the guitar. Bagpipes would be cool, though. You don't mess with a dude with bagpipes.

Had a guitar for about 2 years but I haven't played it much.
I got this learning book with it but I got lost after the first 15 pages.
Decided to just learn some songs with tabs instead but I lost motivation and then didn't play it for like a year.
Picked it up again this week and learned some basic songs (Needle In The Hay, Blitzkrieg Bop)

Musiclover420 03-17-2014 10:17 PM

Keyboards don't suck for one, and I wish I had the lungs for saxophone D: that would be my dream.

Keyboards suck so badly. I bet you play one.

Basit316 03-18-2014 05:10 AM

Would love to learn to play a Les Paul Standard, can't afford it

Carpe Mortem 03-19-2014 03:54 PM

I'm trying to learn fingerstyle percussive acoustic. I'm thinkin since I haven't played guitar before this, it'll come more easily than it would for someone set in their ways.

Gotta learn basic acoustic first though... thank god for knowing too many goddamn musicians.

Carpe Mortem 03-19-2014 03:55 PM

Oops. Didnt look at full title, my bad. But I am working on it so I kinda play. Just not very well.

Black Francis 04-19-2014 10:14 AM

I started as a drummer, then moved up to a bassist, then moved up to the guitar.

i can also play a little bit of Piano which is my fav instrument.

negativecreep 04-19-2014 10:42 AM

Iv'e been playing drums for 4 years, guitar for 1 year... would love to learn saxophone

Xurtio 04-20-2014 01:28 PM

Guitar, keys, and mandolin. Been picking up some bass, lately, too. Also just started playing around with a microkorg synth.

Alright so almost 5 years later I can add banjo to the list, as well as bass guitar and mandolin. I did get a ukulele but quickly ran out of things to do with it so I sold it and really haven't felt bad about that decision. Really been enjoying the banjo and would go so far as to call myself a banjo player first, and then everything else.

One problem I have had with taking on so many instruments is divvying up practice time accordingly. There are some weeks where I maybe only play my bass or guitar once.

Vitne Eveille 04-20-2014 03:57 PM

I really want to learn piano. That's a "to do" eventually.

I've been checking out a few banjos myself, now that I have a running car again it's probably gonna be my next $100+ purchase. Torn on 5 or 6 string, as someone who doesn't play guitar I guess either or would be equally challenging?

Frownland 04-21-2014 12:32 PM

I've been playing both guitar and drums quite a bit lately. When I have a full kit available (I usually just play the snare as that's what I own), it's a lot of fun. I also play any non brass instrument I can get my hands on. I can usually find a good style to play in, not to mention it's fun as **** when I'm relearning a new instrument.

A 6 string banjo is just a guitar with a banjo body. The low E string sounds cool, but everything else sounds more or less the same. I don't really have that high of an opinion on them, mostly because the large stores always seem to carry two or three for every one 5-string banjo.

Seeing as how you don't play guitar I'd say get a 5-string and the Hal Leonard Banjo Method Book 1. Most Guitar Centers will carry the Epiphone MB-100 banjo which is an open back, so it's not quite as loud and it has a far more mellow tone, but it sits on your lap comfortably and is incredibly light. That's pretty much the entry tier in terms of cost and is generally pretty good. Make sure you get someone at the store to set up the bridge for you and get it in tune. If you can get National thumb picks, get them. I use a medium and they fit just fine and aren't as long as the Dunlop brand ones.

I'm hoping to pick up something with a pretty dirty, dank and twangy deeper sound, and a VERY percussive-friendly body as I'm planning on getting really into the 'drum' appeal of a banjo. Not sure if I can find a starter along those lines but I'm more than happy to spend a little extra cash for what I want.

To get poetic, a banjo that brings to mind the greasy, long-nailed fingers of a murderous cajun, not the calloused ones of a good-natured farmer. Went to GC over the weekend and of the four total banjos they had in store, none of them jived the way I want.

Sockface 06-05-2014 08:49 AM

I play everything I can get my hands on, though not always that professionally.

I'm probably the best at the ukulele right now, but that's only because it's so handy to take with me everywhere (as opposed to my drums). Also because it's not that difficult to make it sound okay :)

I'm slowly but surely picking up guitar again, I'm pretty awful on bass though. It's like I can't hear the low notes as clearly, but that might just come with practice.

I used to be an okay drummer, but for the past few months our home has needed a lot of peace and quiet which means little to no practicing for me, and that has made me really rusty.

Black Francis 06-05-2014 08:57 AM

I know how to play the keyboards (and NO, it doesn't suck!) but im not very good at it, i used to have a big old keyboard that was a hand me down from a friend and i was using that to get better but then i lost it. :(

Lepfan1981 06-18-2014 12:31 PM

I taught myself how to play bass, have been for 8 years :)

BoxTar 06-18-2014 12:47 PM

I've been teaching myself guitar, with the help of a friend of mine, for around 3 years. I also play synths to make weird electronic stuff too, but my first love was guitar, really :D

The Ascension 06-18-2014 12:47 PM

can play the saxophone altho my main instrument is my voice

really want to learn how to play the and keyboards/synthesizer.

Ana Kovacheva 06-18-2014 03:57 PM

I attended guitar lessons for a couple of years at school, played rock music, classical pieces, Spanish guitar music I liked it so much, but gave it up later I had no time

MISTERQCUE 06-18-2014 09:16 PM

'Sssup all!

New guy here & would like to intro'myself. A musician on/off for over 30+ years, I've experienced a small modicum (really small :p:) of success as a bassist (with some skillz as a drummer/keys & rhythm git) playing in var bands & some studio-session work. Performed on a coupla' albums produced by small, local-independent labels "back-in-the-day" (don't ask) & played with various Jazz/Funk/Rock-fused bands. Had the opportunity to perform with jazz-saxist, Frank Wes, pianist Walter Murphy (produced & recorded 70's R&B hit, "5th of Beethoven), former percussionist, Ed Franklin (son of Aretha) & several others.
Now-a-days, I write, perform, track & record my own music in my "home studio" trying my hardest to fuse today's sound with ol'-skool 70's funk/jazz/r&b/rock. I record to both ADAT's (I luv the that soft, analog-type digital recording) & ProTools (so easy). Music is my release from the stress of everyday life & hope to be able to share what I know as well learn from others.
'Nuff said.....

Xurtio 06-18-2014 09:50 PM

Wow, a real rock star. Tell me your secrets :P

Musicwhore A-Z 06-20-2014 08:24 PM

Yes...:drummer: I'm more than happy keeping time and holding everything together, so to speak. Although I prefer to say I play drums AND percussion. But I digress. ;)

Tr! 07-10-2014 12:34 AM

Kinda like the opening/first post, I play guitar, but not well, haha. I literally started playing like this past week, hahahaha. I've jammed on the drums since I was little, but again, not well.

Carpe Mortem 07-21-2014 07:54 AM

I finally bought a cajon box yesterday, so working on learning that. I've been wanting one awhile now and was just gonna build it but GC had a Pearl one for like 80 bucks.

There's a tinge of the hippie in me haha.

falskurfugl 07-22-2014 11:54 AM

I'm a cellist, but I really wanna learn piano. It helps a lot in the understanding of harmony.

Frownland 07-22-2014 12:02 PM

Does anybody else use what I call compound instruments? Where you take your existing instruments and mesh them together to make a different sounding instrument. I take parts from my clarinet and attach it to my sax to give it a deeper tone, I take my sax neck and attach it to my flute, and I take my clarinet mouthpiece and put it on my trumpet (VERY deep sounds here).

i had to google what a cajon box is and it turns out i recognised the instrument but i didn't know the name but i remember the violent femmes drummer using it in a performance.

it seems like a very minimalistic instrument, it seems hard to master

MrDetonia 07-28-2014 07:47 AM

Been playing bass for just over 5 years now. Mine's a Peavey Milestone BXP. I play a lot of rock and funk: Primus, Level 42, shoddy attempts at Marcus Miller, obligatory Red Hot Chili Peppers, Etc.

Jiffzy 08-02-2014 08:13 PM

I play guitar, and I am sort of glued to it...

Carpe Mortem 08-04-2014 01:41 PM

So... I played a dulcimer guitar for the first time yesterday at GC and I definitely, assuredly ****ing want one. I took to it like a fish to a pond. Never could get the handle of many stringed instruments, just too weird to me, but the fact it's played on your lap made these piano fingers ecstatic.

$200 for the one I played, used. Next paycheck... I will be back.

iamdiamondami 08-04-2014 03:07 PM

I'm teaching myself how to play keyboard. A friend is helping me with it but most of the time I play alone.

I love dulcimers, I plan to get one for myself one day. By dulcimer guitar do you mean one like this?:

http://images.guitarcenter.com/produ...69916136_A.jpg

Or a more traditional one like this?:

http://www.folksociety.org/_graphics/dulcimer.png

I think Neapolitan has one of the latter.
