Default Selling Music Gear

Hey peeps, I was wondering if I could get a little advice from you gear mavens. I'm going to be selling some music equipment/instruments for the first time in my life and am not really sure how to go about it. I'm particularly unclear on how best to figure out how much things are worth. Are there any resources any of you know of that are good for finding that stuff out?

The first item on my sale list is a TubeWorks 7200 MosValve bass amp. It's 11 years old but in fantastic shape and hasn't been used hard at all. Any thoughts on how much such a thing might sell for or where I could find out?

I don't know about price but craigslist is a good place to go to sell things like that.

Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.

Honestly thats a better bet than ebay. You dont have to worry about shipping and messing with someone you will never see. I just sold a tele and bought an sg off craigslist and it went super smooth. On the other hand you mentioned a pretty rare item so theres a good chance noone locally will want it. I would bring it to your local shop and ask them what they think its worth used thenstick it on ebay and craigslist.

another site i like on the same lines as CL is kijiji.com. guess it really depends on your area though. out hear on the atlantic coast it's the place to find used goods.

as for trying to determine the value of your gear i looked at some user review sites like harmony central. not many reviews unfortunately but most user reviews include what price they paid and whether or not it was new or used. enough to get a ballpark figure of the value. from what i saw if you're in a rush to sell i'd list it at $400 or best offer. if you're not in a rush list it at $500 firm.

like RezZ mention's checking with your local music store might turn up some good information too. especially if you have a good rapport with someone on staff and it's the kind of place that will buy and sell gear from its customers.

also plan on having people trying to lowball the hell out of you.

another option a lot of people don't consider with sites like CL is listing under multiple areas. be clear in your description that it's in a neighboring city even if it might get flagged as spam and removed. it might be exactly what someone who will just happen to be passing through your town next week has been desperately trying to find for years.

good luck on the sale.

Thanks man! I really appreciate your feedback.

That's $400/$500 US, right? I'm pretty stoked if that's really what I can get for it.

those are the average prices i saw on the few sites that i found with info. hell there was one by a canadian guy who paid $1200 for the piece around 2000, a used sale for $540 a few years later. so i figure if it normally sold for about $1000 new there's no reason you can't get at least half now.

so yeah it's not like amps really lose that much in value as time goes on. sure it's used and all, and i'm not sure what you paid originally but i'd expect to be able to get at least 50-60% of the initial purchase if it's still in decent condition, especially if you're the only owner.

also gotta be very patient if it's not an 'IT' item as well. might have to list it more than a few times before you start getting bites. are there any other comparable pieces of gear on your local CL site?
