Actually, it's called the "Novax Fanned-Fret System" and it's been around for quite a while now. Voodoo-Dingwall make a 4-, 5-, and 6-sting bass with that design, and have offered it for many many years now. It's ergonomically better for playing, as you don't have to twist your wrist when playing. All frets line up the way they would playing at the 12th fret; directly in line with your fingers!
