Hello people.I am a very amateur musician.I currently have a Casio CTK-2200 and I want to buy something more professional.Well I live in Turkey and I have limited sources and access to instrument market.I found Yamaha NP-31 very nice.

In the other hand people are suggesting me to buy something like Korg Pa50 or Pa60.I read about them and they look pretty fun.

I don't really know what MIDI is but I want to use it.

1-Can you simply explain me what the MIDI is ?

2-Yamaha NP-31 has MIDI IN/Out.Can I use MIDI just by connecting it to my computer ?

3- Why should I choose Yamaha NP-31 or any KORG Pa

Well if you think both of are these useless you can advise me other instruments.But as I said I can only afford around 250-300 $ ( that worths lots of money in my country including the taxes )

Thanks for you effort but in this thread it explains it very professionaly.I meant , can I use MIDI as a sooo amateur person without buying any additional equipment.All I want to know is if I have a midi keyboard and a cable can I connect it to my computer and make some noise

Yes you can.
To say it in a basic way: You need some kind of musical program with sounds in it on your computer. Then you can control those sounds through MIDI from your keyboard.
Do you want to record music that way or play it in real time?
If you want to play in real time, there might be issues with a slight delay between you pressing a key and the sound coming from your computer.
This depends on your hardware and software and how you configure it.

That was very helpful.Thanks That delay thing sounds bad.I have a fine GIGABYTE motherboard but I guess that won't be enough at all.People pay hundreds of bucks to sound cards.I will have to deal with it somehow or I can convince myself using Yamaha NP-31 without MIDI.It has only a few sounds.

Edit : I am not interested at recording.

I don't think you need an excellent computer or sound card for that.
Mine is not bad, but certainly not a high end computer and not in any way optimized for playing music.
I'm not a keyboard player, but I do use a small midi keyboard sometimes.
I use it with the Programm FL Studio and the ASIO4all sound driver. With the help of this driver I can play without any noticeable delay.

No problem. Glad to help.
But it's not guaranteed that there won't be a delay when you use the setup I described. There can be many different factors for that. But there's a good chance it will work.

I did a quick research about it and it decreases the delay to around 10-60 ms.I play online fps games at around 100 ms delay.I don't think thats gonna affect me so much

To solve the latency problem get an audio interface. They sell these on Amazon. It is an external sound card that hooks to your computer by usb. That way you have like a mini studio for microphone or guitar. Also the latency problem will get solved. You can also control your latency with your music software program such as Cakewalk, Reason, Ableton Live, etc.
