The first four Beatles albums are essentially bubblegum pop. What Janszoon is saying is correct. when people say overrated, fans automatically get pissy and turn things into arguments. Overrated does'nt mean hated or disliked. It means that they have got more credit than they deserve. They WERE influential, of that there is no doubt but they were not the only group experimenting with sound and recording technique in the 60's.

The thing is, most of the other bands who were the real pioneers of those techniques and innovations forgot to bring one thing along: the fcking songs! The Beatles are really one of the only, very few bands of the 60s to delve into unusual experimentation and come out with a hell load of memorable songs that anybody really wants to listen to.

As for 'bubblegum', then yeah, the first TWO albums tinkered round the border of bubblegum-ism, especially with the girlband covers and whatnot. Hard Day's Night and With The Beatles, however, were not. Both records exhibited considerably more depth than the first two piles of plop, without being that exceptional either. But they were not bubblegum pop, not at all. They were pure beat music and rock'n'roll.

Korn, Slipknot, U2, NIN and Nickelback.

Also, I could do with hearing far less of/about Avril Lavigne. Her lyrics are garbage and her voice is irritating. (she's not a band, but still..)

Nine Inch Nails had 1 or 2 really good songs and the rest are meh - again, just my opinion on things.

I disagree about NIN - the whole double of the Fragile was absolutely sublime in my opinion... and they had a couple of bigger singles in the mid to late nineties, but there really wasn't anything me than a core of serious fans extolling the virtues of NIN upon the public, which, for my mind alone, doesn't add up to a mass hysteria about a band that isn't that good...

Nine Inch Nails are pretty good, but yeah, quite overrated. I really like "1,000,000" from The Slip.

I'm gonna have to say Tool and Muse, the two worst bands ever to be labelled incorrectly as prog, Seriously pretending to experiment but then not doing anything new is NOT prog.

Just because some people can't label genres correctly (I'm actually guilty myself a few times) doesn't detract from the band (who have never claimed to be doing things other people haven't). Though you hate them anyway, so just take my point in stride

Tool's ok, overrated as far as I can tell.

Then Dream Theater are not prog either, or Porcupine Tree, or the majority of prog bands post late 70s.

You clearly don't know what prog means.
