I was saying that everyone thinks they're perfect when they're not. There are very few people who enjoy Radiohead's entire discography, while there's other bands that have "perfect" discographies, in the sense that anyone with the right taste could love all of their work.

Bleach and In Utero are the only two Nirvana albums which have stood the test of time for me. I can respect what they accomplished on Nevermind but it doesn't seem as passionate as the others, and Incesticide was pretty terrible imo.

I am under no illusions that they are "perfect". I still don't think they're overrated though... I think most reasonable fans who hold them in very high regard would acknowledge that Pablo Honey is a bit spotty at best...

So in my opinion, this only proves they're not overrated, because people have a certain perspective on their music - that their earliest stuff was not the greatest. It seems to indicate to me that Radiohead's fans are discerning enough to recognise that they have some faults.

Just as some fans point to Amnesiac being a bit thin on material.

I think there's more of a healthy discernment about the band by its fan than you think.

Yeah, I've determined most Radiohead fans don't fully get Pablo Honey. I still stand by it being leagues ahead of anything else they've ever released.

amen. and since when does a bands discography have any bearing on how overrated a band is, like others have said, great bands have put out bad albums, but that is besides the point entirely, the question is the band in question overrated...

Radiohead is not.

What is there to "get" about Pablo Honey? It's guitar pop with a slight hint of grunge.

Honest non-pretentiousness. It was an album filled with simple guitar diddies laced with gut wrenching vocals that seemed sincerely disturbed. Something most fans of their gigantic elaborate layered-to-the-point-of-overdone concept wank can't relate to.

I think I have a vague notion of what you *might* be trying to say but could you clarify that point? Are you trying to point out that their first album was weak and that fans overlook that weakness? If thats the case I kinda understand the point you're making, although i still don't agree with you.

Many great and wonderful bands have albums they shun and their fans shun - and that makes them no less a great band. David Bowie rejects most of his eighties material these days, I consider him not to be overrated. My favourite band, the Church have stated many a time that their 1996 album "Magician Among the Spirits" is a weaker album, and they are no less great or overrated for that reason.

My point is that good bands can make crappy albums, that doesn't make them terrible or overrated - they just made a bad album. It happens.

That statement is completley void, because Pablo Honey wasn't a crappy album, so it in no way relates to this situation.

lieasleep 01-05-2009 05:17 PM

well that comes down to taste. i didn't really like it, but it was definetely in no way crap but (IMO) their weakest album. how it contributes to radiohead being overrated, i dont get, but still...
